Cats won't even come when you call them by name. My cats know their names. They acknowledge me when I say them. Sometimes, they even come to their names. When I really want their attention, though, then there's a specific sound that they respond to, and they'll come right to me. One of them used to wait by the front door for me every day when I got home. He did that for years. One of them follows me around. And if they sense that you don't like them, or if they don't know you, then they're much more likely to ignore you than to buddy-up to you. They're genuinely, extremely affectionate and sweet, and not just when they're hungry. But those are just my cats. When they were kittens, the veterinarian told us that we were lucky to have such wonderful cats. So I suppose that I can see how some people wouldn't like them; not all people are friendly, and not all cats are. So I don't really agree with any of that, about cats being obnoxious and all, but I can definitely see where you're coming from. But I'd rather be around animals than people most of the time, so I'm biased. Admittedly, though... cats are pretty self-absorbed. They are the center of their universe. I didn't know that spiders could be kept as pets. Hmm.

Cats just seem to like me, but I never have cared for them. -laughing- A lot of people keep spiders as pets. They're not your ordinary garden variety, though. This is a pic of my baby----his name is Desmond, and he's a Chilean Tarantula. i177.photobucket.com/albums/w202/Desi72/Desmond-1.jpg-grins- Isn't he adorable?

GA! It's a big hairy spider!!! I have two cats that know their names, always need to be involved in everything you're doing and are super cool and affectionate. They sleep with us. One is more routine oriented and the other just does what he feels like or follows his brother's lead. I dig cats. They're self sufficient for the most part. As in I don't need to come hom in the middle of having a good time to let the cat out! lol

I'm so not clicking on that link - spiders creep me out! I have always wanted a snake for a pet though, that would be pretty cool.
I'm in need of a cat, because this mouse has just moved into my kitchen. I might try and adopt a neighbourhood cat for a day, just to catch the little sucker.

I call my brothers' cats several different names, too. -laughing- None of them are allowed on here, though.

I have a cat who's about six years old but he only has one tooth left... we adopted him from a woman who adopted him from a family that kept him in a cellar most of his life... but he's really sweet, if not very annoying. Seriously, he's big and fat and he gets white hair everywhere.
Sometimes when I look at him I find myself thinking "he could be an old, senile man who yells at people from his front porch". Fridge really can be whiny sometimes, though. If you walk away while petting him he'll whine until you come back.
And guinea pigs are pretty great, too.

We have a cat at my shop, too. I tell my boss that's the only reason I took the job. He's indoor/outdoor and acts like he's my dog. He follows me around everywhere, greets me when I come to work and chows me to my car at the end of the day! Theonly problem is he's an excellent hunter/gatherer! lol

When I was in Rome, last spring, my cousin and I were going through little alley-way shops near the Trevi Fountain, because we had nothing else better to do (believe it or not, you can see all the main sites in Rome in two days. We were there for three and a half). We went into this shop selling shawls and scarves and the like, and they had baskets full of gorgeous fabrics. A girl who was a little ways away from us reached into a basket to pull out what looked like some furry brown scarf, and it turned out to be a cat. The shop owners apparently had a cat that wandered in all the time and they just let it sleep where ever. It really threw us off, lol. It was funny though.

I must be the odd one out - other than Des - I'm not much of a cat person. I don't mind them - I think they're cute as kittens, and I'm sure I'd love them if I had them since that age - but cats as a whole, I'm not terribly fond of. I'd take a dog over a cat any day. I've had two and have three very specific ones I want when I have my own place. I'm just waiting for the day. Always have been a dog person and I always will be.

Well, I'm not really a cat person...we just have one. I'd prefer a dog anyday. Notice I said "a".

I just don't like them.....cats annoy me. I don't know what it is about them, but they just annoy me. I prefer my spiders even though it cuts down on the number of people I can show them off to.
