Hahaha, I was going to say the same thing as fairlane - if you're sick, at least if I'm sick, it helps, at least for a little bit. But if you're pregnant, the nausea just doesn't go away, even if you spend half the day puking your guts up. Now, here's a weird one that you probably don't want to know about unless you're interested in biological-type stuff, so warning: TMI!!! I had a very bad stomach virus when my second son was a baby, and I was still lactating (i.e. making milk, for those who don't know the lingo, lol). There's this thing called letdown, where when the baby latches on, your body releases a hormone (oxytocin) that opens your milk ducts and contracts them so they empty for the baby. For the first couple of months or so you can feel it happen, but after a while you usually don't notice it. Well, with this virus I had, I was getting more and more nauseous. All of a sudden, almost simultaneously but not quite, I felt a strong letdown, and then threw up. So my theory is that the hormone that causes milk letdown is also what causes the involuntary stomach contraction that occurs right when you throw up, at the point of no return (before which you can sometimes talk yourself down from it, lol). So, Tens - are you sick? And did I just make you throw up ? Liz

If it's booze, yeah you do tend to feel better. I, however, had a nasty, horrific stomach flu a couple months ago and I just felt worse and worse the more I puked. I thought I'd die!! It was just wretched!!!

Thanks for that, Liz. If I was still sick, that would have done it
I was sick on Friday. Just woke up feeling nauseous all day. By four I was tempted to call a cab or home or something just because I didn't think I could drive for twenty minutes. Turns out if you can make it through 8 hours and 15 minutes of work making mental notes on where the nearest washrooms and trashcans are you can hit the highway at 120 kph and make it home.
So Keira and my aunt are both telling me I will feel better if I throw up. Haven't done that since July 2005 and then it was thick Shanghai noodles that I ended up spewing and I hated every moment of the next two days. Thank you Norwock...But I gave in and figured I would try this whole throwing up to feel better bit. Only then did I find out I can't throw up on command.
Now, if I were my baby brother I would have just stayed home all day and saved myself the acting. But then, Jhon and I always did have cast iron stomachs. I can guarantee we've both had food poisoning at some point, but neither have been incapacitated by it. Gotta love genetics.
But I did learn something cool on Friday. I had to lick and seal ten or so envelopes. I thought I was going to be sick right then and there at the notion. But I did it and the glue cured the nausea from 11 until 2.
Cool, huh? Not that I am suggesting you all should go out there and waste envelopes, but hey.
See ya in the funny papers!!!

I could tell you the mental trick I use when there is the absolute need to throw up but it's gross and I don't want to make EVERYONE here puke!

Last year I had the stomach bug, like the 24-hour flu or something, and I threw up after I ate anything, even drank water, which totally sucked because my dad made my favorite dinner that night and it was Saturday so no staying home from school on Monday. Then I passed it on to my brother. HE got to stay home from school...I guess I caught it at the wrong time.

You know, for the longest time I used to think of this one story where one of the characters was graphically throwing up in order to keep my stomach from growling in the middle of class. It doesn't make me at all queasy, though.
Random Stupidness for today:
Personal space and animals. Ever notice they have no concept of this? It took me years to teach my dog to back off a little at the words "Three foot bubble". But damn, it's like they know when you want space and they're right in your face. And when you want attention it's like you're invisible. It's both random and stupid since I can't find my pets at the moment, but hey.
See ya in the funny papers!!!

Awww, your poor pup only wanted the attention...
I wish I still had my dog around to have that issue with, lol. But she had the opposite problem. She never snuggled unless she could tell you were really upset or hurt. Or you had to pick her up and actually set her on your lap, and half the time she'd immediately jump off and leave the room. She never slept on my bed when I wanted her to; she'd sit at my door until I let her out of the bedroom, and would go sleep under the shelf/bookcase thingy in the bathroom. She loved that very bottom part. She'd drag a towel or something down there and sleep. It was her little cubby hole. Or sleep in my mom's bed. She was MY dog, but she preferred my mom's bed. *Shakes head*

I wish I had a dog...but I have a cat, who's stupid if you ask me. She once broke her hip whens she got outside but she still gets out as much, if not more, then before. And she only cuddles if she wants to. She'll jump off your lap the minute you let her if she dosn't want to cuddle, and no amount of scratching her head will change that, lol!

Our cats wake us up at 5 am because they're ready to eat....we're not ready to get up and feed them but they've decided that's the time they're ready. My older cat also decides he wants lovins at like 3 in the morning. He doesn't want it any other time. He comes up to me and stares at me, purring until I finally reach out and pet him. This morning I didn't reach up and he MEOOOOWWWWed at me very obnoxiously like Heaven forbid I don't wake out of a sound sleep and cater to him! My little guy is a cuddler all the time. But he wants it constantly. Especially annoying when he jumps on the desk and stands in front of the screen while I'm typing. Then there's times we can't even find him in our very small house. Little freaks, they are! PS No zevie, I'm not giving it up....too gross!! LOL

As for all the information floating around regarding bodily fuctions, I wasn't disgusted at all. Maybe I'm a little off as to what I consider TMI. (I've had dinners with a mother who's been a registered nurse for over thirty years, and SHE certainly doesn't know what TMI is at this point, lol. You get used to it.)
One of my cats purposely sits on whatever it looks like you're using. If you're at the computer, he'll sit on the desk; if you're doing your homework, he'll sit on all of it; if you're reading, he'll sit on the book. He makes *sure* to step on everything. He even sits on the box when we have pizza. It's his favorite spot. And he's never afraid to come right up and get in your space.
But, yeah, they don't really care about where you want them to go... they care about where *they* want to go.
Cheers!

My cat's gotten better about the whole personal space thing, but he's also the type that will lay or step on just about anything. I'll be sitting on my bed with my laptop and I'll have my TV on, with my DVD and TV remote next to me, and he'll jump up and walk over and lay down on top of them, and whatever else is laying around, whether it be papers or my mp3 player or its charger ... whatever's there, he just takes it upon himself to lay all over it, lol.
And then after a while he'll get up and go lay at the end of my bed, which is really random.
I think he has a little routine. After my mom goes to bed, I stay up for a while in my room, just writing or listening to music or whatever, and right after my mom goes into her room, he'll want to leave. So I have to get up and let him out. And the minute I sit back down and put my headphones on, he wants to come in again. It's like he knows right when I sit down and get comfortable. At that exact moment he'll be banging on my door to come back in, the little demon. I love him to death, but he is one smooth operator, let me tell you. He's very skilled in human manipulation, lol.
He likes to lay on my legs when I sleep. I almost always let him, but sometimes he'll catch me when my legs are only in that 'I'm-still-getting-comfortable' position, and I'll have to move them after a while ... which means he'd have to move, too, lol. Last night he caught me in one of those positions, and he fell asleep and I looked down at him, and he looked so adorable that I just didn't have the heart to move him, but I had to, lol. :)

Throwing up doesn't bother me, but I hate the sight of blood and wounds. My boyfriend cut his arm and was trying to get me to stick a bandage on it, I was like "Don't come near me!"
Since its winter down here in my part of the world, my dog is trying to actually get into bed with us every night because he's so cold. Due sympathy and all, but no animals in the bed!

latch22....I recall my mother discussing various nursing duty type things at the dinner table as well. A stranger's poopy pants is certainly what I want to talk about while eating! LOL

Their sense of dinner conversation gets a bit skewed, but you just run with it and find yourself shrugging it off. It's kind of funny, sometimes.
