Oh, I just hate that.
Somebody did that to one of my oneshots. I think they even said "update soon" in the review. And I'm pretty sure they left an anonymous review so it wasn't like I could inform them that it wasn't ever going to be updated ...
Chatspeak drives me nuts, too. The only online acronyms I ever use are "lol," and its other variants. Otherwise you'll never catch me talking -- er, typing -- like that, and I pretty much flip out on people who do, lol. :)

What I don't get--plz doesn't even sound like please. And I've never had wRiTiNg LiKe ThIs but I'd probably drive myself crazy. Ahh...I'm getting tensed up just thinking about it.

"Plz" doesn't even make any sense. Because whenever I see it somewhere, it just reads in my mind as "pullz." Same with "thx," for thanks. I end up reading it as "thux." Lol.
I also hate the whole "kthx" thing. It just bugs me. D:

You know what I hate? When I have a one-shot and people say something like, "more plz!" then add it to their alert list. That drives me crazy. About that "plz" and "thx" thing--which I don't get--I have, um, an interesting example. They do sound like "pullz" and "thux" in my mind, but... you know those "X-ing" signs? Well, you know how they mean crossing? Up until last summer, I think... I had no idea what they meant. I just always thought of them as "ex-ing" signs. *hangs head*

I admit it... I love netspeak. It's just one of those ridiculous things of our era (like pet rocks, I guess, lol). But, it has it's place, lol. If I get into one of those stalker-feed websites (aka Facebook) then it's just fun to see how much like Coupland your writing can get. But, I agree, when it's in the middle of intelligent writing, or a response to a story it took you *ages* to proof and rewrite and scan for grammer errors...it's kinda like a punch in the nose. (Incidentally - the run-on sentence, massive grammar error saver: the elipse. )

I was reading a fic where someone had a character actually say "OMG" and she spelled it out "Oh Em Ghee!!" I didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

This is making me think of that cell phone add that I think is a riot, where the mom is angry because of the high bill. She's asking the daughter who she's been text messaging, and the daughter is saying things like, "IDK. My BFF Jill.", and at the bottom of the screen are the subtitles ("I don't know. My best female friend Jill."). By the end the mom is all frustrated and tries to respond in the same way, but it comes out scrambled up and flustered.

Haha! That commercial's so funny. For a minute I got it confused with that other one, where the mom and the daughter are arguing about "how much this phone bill is NOT gonna cost me," lol. It was like backwards arguing.
But doesn't BFF stand for best friend forever? o.O

I love that commercial, but I never see it anymore. That mother just getting so angry and not knowing what to say, hahah. Hopefully it'll be on Funniest Commercials of the Year.
Another thing--ppl.

Oh yeah, another great one! Must be the same company. I hope the person who came up with those got a big fat bonus. Not that I can even remember what company it was...

I thought it was Cingular ... but maybe not.
I know the "IDK my BFF Jill" one was Cingular ('cause I just looked it up on YouTube, lol; great place to find commercials, I like to watch the Geico caveman commercials on there because they're hysterical).
The other one was probably Cingular, too.
Speaking of commercials, has anybody seen the one where the guy was in the Spiderman suit, trying to find a roommate, and the one guy was like, "Oh, I can get us the Comcast Triple Play," or whatever, and the Spiderman guy webs him and says, "I webbed you. That means you got the apartment!" That's like my favorite commercial. :p

I was reading a fic where someone had a character actually say "OMG" and she spelled it out "Oh Em Ghee!!" I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. That's hilarious! The writer must have been making a joke. I hope. I've done something similar, heh - "Gee Dee" as in "goddamn" (can I write that here?). In my defense, it was a Mrs. Curtis line, and I think it was popular for her generation. (Again: I hope.) Deliberately spelling things wrong drives me crazy - more so than netspeak, I think. Leetspeakers are just lazy - I get that. Plus there is something funny to the whole computer-nerd community having it's own language. But, WHY would you EVER name your company "Cingular"?! Why? Really. Drives me nuts. Did they really forget to spellcheck their company name? Some typo on the company napkins, and they thought "what the hell, we'll keep the "c"." WHY WOULD YOU EVER DO THAT. Come on people, splurge for that extra semi-circle of ink. YEESH. And then if you HAD named your company "Cingular", why would you make a commercial that makes fun of netspeakers? Oh yeah, haha, isn't it funny when people spell things wrong? We think so, too. Buy our product. Cingular. *WHY.* ...apparently, I have rage issues. 'Scuse me, all.

'She was the most beautiful girl he had ever seen.'
AHHHHHH! I SWEAR IF I SEE THIS ONE MORE TIME I'M GOING TO PUKE.
Ok. I think I'm ok. But that line makes me so angry. I mean COME ON! Grr....
Right then....
