If they were planning on remaking the outsiders possibly as a TV show it could be done in the style that party of five TV show did it in the 90s or that other show American dreams series in 2002-2005 did it in because both of these shows had a big audience following and teens and young adults could seriously relate to what these characters were going thorough.

Also if it's done as a TV series it could go back 8 months previous to the main events unfolding in the outsiders book and movie and extend on all the information that pony boy feeds us in the book about him and curly Shepard burning holes in each others fingers with a cigarette. Or how Johnny gets jumped by bob and same other Socials in the lot or even show how Paul Holden and durry use to be friends and go to high school together but all that changes once the Curtis brothers lose there parents or even show how there were no child protection laws to protect Johnny from being child abuse and neglect and the domestic violence that experienced in his home and how dally had to become a surrogate brother/parent to him. And they could do post book and movie and show the fall out of the events that have unfolded since bob/Dallas and Johnny had died and what transpires for the greasers and the socials and is the rivalry with each other finally over or has it just begin because of other characters coming into the picture to shake up the system and challenge the status quo.

Another twist that would work is to bring in other cliques into the picture just to make it slightly more complicated so it not just social vs greaser but you can bring in other groups like jocks/preps/skaters etc. just to bring a social hierarchy within this teen world. Also it might be a great idea to bring same of the more mean/nastier street gangs like the timber street tigers/Bramley boys/shepherds gang or even bring in same of dally old enemies from other gangs from new York into Tulsa or maybe those street gangs from LA to infiltrate Tulsa. Because one of the stories that I'm in the process of writing under the outsiders world at the moment does have a female character that does come from LA who know nothing about greasers/socials and the conflicts there dealing with.
