Mars, that is one of the best ideas I've ever heard! I would so enter those contests.

They did have one of those contests here in NZ, the show involved was this extremly bad yet somehow long lived NZ medical soap. I started watching it so I could try and enter the contest but it was too hard to take seriously. I would have wanted to amp up the dodgy content to make it more interesting lol.

I would watch a remake if (and only if) it was a sort of "re-imagining" of the original movie. By this, I mean, "The Outsiders" with a twist... Maybe some flashbacks, maybe some character backstories, maybe even a change of narrator or something where we learn more than we would have originally.
The new movie would also have to use a bunch of unknowns (not much unlike the original) that are age-appropriate and not "Dawson's Creek" 14-year-olds. If Lindsey Lohan (as a previous post mentioned) was cast as Cherry, that would just throw all of my interest out the window.
Obviously, it doesn't make sense to fix something that isn't broken, so the whole feel of a remake would have to be different and add on to all the positives that were there in the first place.
Just my two cents.

Good point! It'd have to be because someone out there had a real original vision of it, not just for the sake of making another movie. Although, if they changed the book info much (extra story that wasn't written, modernizing it, etc) I think they'd alienate their core audience (Hinton fans).

I always thought it'd be interesting if they included a flashback of finding Johnny after the Socs got him. Hmm...

A bit younger? It would be hilarious to see senior greasers!
*Socs jumping Ponyboy* Pony: Just let me catch my breath, you young whippersnappers. Darry! Soda! Steve! Anyone! Soda: That sounded like Ponyboy... Darry: What? Soda: Pony-boy you deaf old mule Darry: Hold on a sec, I can't hear ya. Anyone seen my hearing aid? Two-Bit: Your hearing aid? the real question is where're my teeth? I would have paid good money for those if I hadn't have stolen them! Johnny: We should go help Ponyboy. Darry: What? Dallas: Who's Ponyboy again? Steve: Just hand me my cane and I'll show those Socs good this time!
And one wonders if anyone would save poor old Ponyboy...

I love it! Especially the "whippersnappers" part. I would totally read a story like that. Now that's a great parody if I ever saw one!! ;D

Haha, that is too funny! Reminds me of one episode of Spongebob. :p
And I agree, I think it would make a great parody. ^_^

Haha!! Tens, you're a genius. We should all write them a nice little script and send it off as a testament to their lasting popularity, influence, and the sheer hilarity of seeing that, because damned if I didn't laugh harder than I have in a while when I read that. Thank you.
Cheers!
Pony: Does anyone else hear that music? Darry: What music? Steve: Turn it off! Two-Bit: It's depressing. Pony: Now it's changed! Two-Bit: Ooh, exciting now! Dallas: It's too damn loud, now! Two-Bit: Spoil sport. Dallas: What'd you call me? Steve: Don't mind him. He doesn't know who he's talking to. He's gone senile with age. Two-Bit: It's a battle of the soundtracks! ... But where is it coming from?

Oh, and Queen Jane looked up Dallas' name a while back and it supposedly means "sweet old man."
Cheers!

Haha!! I remember that! I seriously sat there staring at the screen in complete disbelief for like five minutes, lol. It was hilarious. Voice-over guy: Geriatric greasers, unite! Two-Bit: Who you callin' geriatric? Steve: Yeah! Two-Bit: What? That is absolutely hilarious, especially that last part! This should so become a parody. ^_^

LOL, all of you. I second whoever suggested sending off a parody script to "the gang".
(Judging from the stuff mars has posted, Glenn could probably still play a thirty-year-old.)

Heck, if they did a remake, Ralph could still play Johnny because he still looks 16. Here's a link to a funny clip from a show he was on recently. www.youtube.com/watch?v=_rYdSZkIETs

LOL! He looks totally different! But, when he was sixteen, he did look at least twelve. He couldn't play sixteen. He looks way older. Like, eighteen, maybe.
