[glow=green,2,300]Have any of you created an OC that just refused to go away once the story was finished?
I'm having trouble getting rid of my Desmond (Reaper) Morgan charater, and it's driving me crazy. I'm trying to make another story come, but he keeps wanting to pop up in it even though the new story is years before when he is back in Tulsa!
*bangs head on desk*

One idea - try putting in situations you know your OC wouldn't fit into, but the canon characters would.  |

I have one OC from one of my fics that I finished earlier this year, and he won't go away only because he's kind of my voice of reason ("Johnny wouldn't wear that" "That bread is moldy..." and so on), but I have a male character I haven't even used in a fanfic, and he won't go away.
Sadly, his name is Jeannot and so I'm a little apprehensive about putting him in anything because I doubt anyone who wasn't in France in the 60's had that name, and even then... eh. What's worse is that every time I attempt to draw something it comes out with him in it and I can't put it up on deviantart because I got the name from one of my favorite artists there and...
-deep breath-
So, yeah. What's worse than the fact that his name is Jeannot is the fact that I just realized it's the French equivalent to Johnny [which, if I stick him in a fanfic I will deny happily].
Yeah.

You could always change his name. I agree, I actually had to do this. I am totally in love with the name Lynette, so I was using it as the main OFC's name in the story I'm currently writing, but then I wanted a username, and now pen under Lynette, or Nette so I've had to change it to something else that I like and that fits with the time. |

I'm seriously considering killing my OMC off.....in a short story for my own gratification, of course. Maybe that would work.  |

I don't think there's anything wrong with using Jeannot, as long as you give it a reason - his parents are French, and he was born in France. It's not like it's just an abstract made-up name. Unless you have a completely different background for him, just that little bit makes him that much more intriguing. As far as that being the French form of Johnny - even better! |

Are you kidding?! I heart my own original characters so much. I'm self-obsessed like that. If you were addressing me, then yes. I am dead serious....pun intended. Desmond has become a total pain in my rear now that I'm doing a story that won't involve him at all. If I can convince him he is dead, then maybe I can get on with my newest OMC. |

I'll end up having to write another Fan Fic for him, so I've given up on getting rid of him.

I don't usually like my originals, which is why I've never written a Dallymance, or a mance on any of the others. I get bored of most of them much to quickly. My only lasting originals are hamsters. There's no danger of them popping up in an Outsiders related...fic...hmm...unless...
I have one recent human OMC who has stuck around in my brain, but he looks and acts suspiciously like a real actor so I'm much to embarrassed (rightly) to put him on the page. I've named him Glenn *snickers*. Ironically, as mars pointed out, his characters do tend to get killed off.

Yeah, there are a couple of actors that I like who seem to die at the end of everything. It can get a little annoying, lol.
