Anyone who's read it, what do you think of it? I thought it was an awesome book, the way Grenville was a vampire and all. I liked the way it was written, with moments from Jamie's past. My favorite character has to be Kell. Who's yours?

It's been around a year since I read it, but I do remember thinking that it was very unique. I liked the style. It was interesting, as well. The vampire thing threw me at first, and I think that I wasn't sure about the ending...
Oh, Kell, definitely. But Jamie was very good, too.
Apparently it's not meant for teenagers--which, after reading, I knew why--but I entirely missed that warning until after I had read it and visited the site. Go figure.
Cheers!

Oh, I loved Kell. I thought he was very well written and had a lot to contribute to Jamie's life. I also liked the Doc. He was a good addition to Jamie's situation as well. He offered a insightful view as he tried to put the pieces together.
What really got me was how Jamie couldn't swim anymore. I felt so bad for him when he had this realization on the cruise. To lose the one thing you're good at...man. But, then, he did seem to lose a part of himself and maybe that was it. Maybe the water was that intrical a part of who he was. Like writing, for me. Man...
But I liked the ending. It was a good way to go.

Oh! I'm starting to remember now. Yeah, now that I think more, I liked the ending.
I can't seem to remember anything from last summer. Maybe that was why I was confused, heh. I need to reread that.
I remember that part. It was very powerful, how he couldn't swim anymore. Good point, Tens.
By the way, I'm glad that I don't seem to be the only person who says "intrical."
It seems that Kell is the reigning champion. He really was a great character. But what else could we expect from S.E. Hinton? She's an amazing character writer (that, and her sense of continuity is impeccable).

That book just blew my mind when I first read it. I loved all the places she went with it.
I loved Jamie's recollection of his experiences. Kell was such a huge part of shaping his life that he is one of my favorite characters.
The vampire twist really got me as I love practically ANYTHING vampire! Coming from Susie, it just made me love her more, if that is even possible!!

HAha...yeha, me too. The ending was the best ending that could have come out of that story. Agree? What could be a better ending? I don't think there is one...lol.

I adore the book, and you know Jamie's is one of my favourite SE Hinton characters. He comes second to Curly Shepard.
I thought it was an interesting book, and a refreshing change from the YA books we are used to from her. I liked the more adult-like genre.
The ending even thought it made me very upset (makes me all emotional when I think about it, lol), was a nice way to finish off the book, I think. Jamie was in a better place. *sighs*

Ha, Ha! i remember reading Hawkes Harbor. I was in English class last year and i wasnt suppose to be reading(i swear i have ADD or something lol) Anywho, my eyes were like glued to the book. At the time that my teacher had notcied..i was on the sex scene and supposedly my face was beat red...( i dont think it was) and the teacher asked me why i was reading and why my face was red. I kind of jsut shrugged and put the book down and appologized...that was after the whole class was looking at me, then after class my firned asked me why i was red and thats all i had to say was sex scene and she goes "OOOOHH." Then i made my boyfriend read and i watched his face..and it wasdh alriaous becuase it went red too, and then my friend read it and she glared at me afterwards as i began laughign hysterically at her red face...yeah, she smackexd me but it was all worth it.

Haha I got ahold of the book about two years ago, I think... I remember being in seventh grade and begging my dad to get it for me... yeah... he bought it but he kept warning me about it and everything. It was kind of funny. XD
But I really enjoyed it, especially the plot and the fact that Grenville really doesn't remind me of any vampires from any other books I've read, and it seems like most vampires in literature are usually very similar.
Anyway I liked Kell but my favourite character was definitely Jamie. He's so troubled and everything, which is mostly why I like him, and he depends a lot on people even if he doesn't really realize it... if that makes sense...

Atleast you were warned lol I on the other hand was completely clueless...Then the second sex scene. I was like "Oh, gosh here we go again" i'm not really immature about it. Like such as "EW! thats gross!" type thing. I'm more like. "Okay then...." or i just skim the page enough for me not to look like a tamato afterwards.

You know, the part of the book that threw me the most was that it was about vampires, but it never really got into them. I mean, it was a story about a vampire, but it was also a story about Jamie, who just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, thus getting involved with one.
My one criticism of the book was that it was anti-climatic in a way, like Hinton pulled a Harper Lee. Nothing terribly exciting seemed to happen, or at least it wasn't written that way. I felt that Jamie could have had a more exciting time with what had happened to him or at the very least, the reader could have gained some of that feeling from it. I mean, the guy gets bit by a vampire and describes it as the most painful experience of his life, but the reader doesn't feel it.
Perhaps the style took away from it being more in the moment, but hey. It was still a very good book, just not what I was expecting it to be. And I know, this feels like a completely different post than my last, but I've been thinking on it. I read this book when I was 17, nearly 18, and I was much more critical then. 17 year old me was just torn between loving it and hating the Lee style.
And I'm babbling. Someone else share now.

the dollar store near giant eagle has EVERYTHING. and i mean, everything. it's not just a dollar tree type store where everything's a dollar, it's mostly just a store where most stuff is kinda cheap [or, cheaper than you can get anywhere else]. it was next to a sci-fi book by l. ron hubbard. that kinda made me laugh.
