I'm horrible. I just don't review anymore. It seems like I find things to comment on, but everyone has already pointed these things out and I sound like a broken record. That and I am developing lazy habits. If it's a story I have been following and absolutely adore, I will find a moment, but generally it is once every couple chapters or so. But when I do review, there's a lot of thought into it at least!
See ya in the funny papers!!!

I'm lousy at reviewing, I barely review anymore. Its hard to find things to say, especially when they've been repeated over and over. I'll drop a review here and there so the author knows I've been reading and haven't given up on them, but when I can only muster a short review I feel lame - cause it looks like I haven't bothered much. It's hard to come up with things to say!

You know, I'm probably off in my thinking that it's good ettiquette to hold off leaving a review until the end - it's merely a matter of personal preference, you know? It also really depends on how lengthy of a story it is. For instance, in another fandom, my absolute favorite story is a whopping 97 chapters long and I think I may have posted a few reviews throughout the duration of time it took me to read the monster. All I know is that when I receive twenty reviews, in a row, from the same reviewer... I tend to chuckle and maybe even groan a little. I see nothing wrong with leaving all the comments for the end - or even copying down comments here and there that I want to remember to point out when all is said and done.
I don't review as often as I should either, to be frank. I try and leave a review, but if I don't end up liking the story, or don't finish it - I don't review. Simple as that. Some people complain that they receive a lot of "hits" and not nearly as many reviews - but hits literally mean nothing. People could be coming back after a few hours break or a couple of days break, or clicked on it and had to go do something else - hits virtually mean nada. I think FFN just stuck that feature in there to appease everyone who was curious, lol.

Oh, boy. Me and my reviews.
I love it when people review every chapter with details, even on stories that have long been put to rest. I put a lot of effort (and I know a LOT of writers do, haha) into each chapter, so it makes me really happy when people take the time to point out the good and bad in each. I've gotten some well-written end of story reviews, but most of them tend to be very general. I think it's easier to give constructive criticism or specific compliments to style, etc. when you review a little more often. I love it when I find that someone's reviewed, say, chapter three in an old story just because something jumped out at them (good or bad).
If there's anything I love more than getting a good review it is giving a ridiculously long one. When I hit a story I love, especially if the story is in progress (so savouring each chapter as it comes instead of gobbling the whole thing up) I tend to, heh, ramble endlessly - ENDLESSLY - about the things I love, the impressions I get, the things that I want to see, etc. Every chapter. This goes especially if the writer has good character skills, and is true a million times over with characters that I adore.
If it's a story that's already complete I review every time I have something to say beyond "good job." I definitely do the twenty in a row thing. But, I didn't know about the etiquette thing. My bad. ļ

Yay! I'm so glad! And I'm glad they don't annoy you. ;D I love giving them and I love author interaction...that's why I'm here, lol.

To be honest, I have never left a review beyond an e-mail or two to our dear Tensleep. I haven't really seen the point. My reviews lean towards 'what can be done better' and they generally go unheeded. No offense intended ladies, but most of the fiction I have read recently on ff.net has been one girl's fantasy after another and they do not take kindly to criticism. I dont bother with the main page any longer, I just go to proflies and it is because of people like me that hit counts are so high.
On that note, there are some good writers on that site who have my silent support always.

Amen, Shadow! I tend to lean the same way as you. I don't read or review much beyond those of my close friends, anymore - though I look everyonce in a while to see what's going on with other authors. I review as much as I should. Though, as people have read, I have my views on what to leave when I do leave one.

What? C'mon, sis; you know me. And you're one to talk. When was the last time you wrote anything new for me to review? Speaking of which, have you read the Mike fic? We have to gang up on her and make her put it up.

I've gotten really awful about reviewing recently. I always read my favorite authors' chapters, but it tends to be while I've got my hands busy doing something else (minds out of the gutter people, I've got a baby here ;D). So I think I'll go back and leave a review later and then it often doesn't happen. But you all know I love your stories!
As far as new authors, I am so torn about leaving reviews. I did leave a lengthy one recently for a story that seemed to be headed down the same old track and I thought I could offer some guidance before it went too far, and I've been considering looking for 2 or 3 new stories a week to comment on. The hard part is finding the good points, because I don't like to jump in and rip a story apart without finding something decent about it (even if it's just that the author came up with a mildly original idea).

I love getting reviewed by good writers, even if it's just a one line "Good job" review. I guess it's because I figure if I think they write well, and they enjoy what I write, then I'm doing pretty good lol. It tends to mean a little more depending on who it comes from, as awful as that sounds. Gosh, ditto this. In fact, MBP read one of my stories in another fandom and I was tickled to death that she 'followed' me there. What a great compliment. I don't review as much as I should. I love it when people tell me what they think, and also when they explain what touched them and what didn't.

I review everything I read at least once throughout the story, I try and review every few chapters usually. Basically I review if I have something to say, which is not always every chapter.
I also like getting reviews from writers I read, so it's interesting that others mentioned that.

My reviews! Don't get me started! Wait...you already did! So, here goes.
I only review if I like the story. And then I'm bad. I say "This is an awesome story!" and yadda yadda yadda blah blah blah and occasionly an "i liked the part when..." but that's usually in parodies, lol!
Ciao!

I only review stories that I like or stories I think have potential in being good but the author needs a few tips on story direction and the sort. But I try and review a lot because I know how much writers appreciate it.
