I'd like to get an idea of how many members are interested in participating in one or more Outsiders fanfic virtual writing workshops.
A topic would be posted ahead of time so everyone knows what we'll be talking about. Then, we will meet on a chatzy board at a time we've all agreed on. It would probably be around 9 or 9:30 pm Eastern Standard Time if it's during the week.
The way it'll work is that I would be there to guide the discussion, and anybody who's interested can join in to discuss whatever the topic is. I don't have a pocketful of answers or anything, so this wouldn't be a lesson or a lecture.
The reason I'm doing this is because I think it would be fun and helpful to have some real-time discussions about some of the stuff that gets touched on in the forum. I know for me, there are sometimes days that go by before I get back to post an answer or comment to something on the board.
In real life, hahaha, there are writing workshops that authors can attend when they go to conferences. In this kind of exchange of thoughts, lots of ideas get tossed around, creativity flows, and brains go into overdrive. All of this usually means that writer's block is overcome, and stuff gets written. Yay! ;D
So just post here if you're interested.
Also, please feel free to use the private message feature on ffnet to invite other writers who you think might be interested, or who seem like they're looking for some input, or even those who seem like they know a lot about writing or the 60s and might want to contribute to the workshop(s).
Liz
Possible topics:
- cliches: Two-Bit and Mickey Mouse, Saint Soda, Evil Socs, etc.
- keeping in character while still surprising readers
- using description without sounding like you're an author trying to describe everything. Ha ha.
- taking a frequently used premise and making it original (i.e. new girl, surprise relative, etc.)
- the 1960s: getting a feel for the era
