So I have two questions with, most likely, blatantly obvious answers. ;D So anyways, first off, in what month do Mr. and Mrs. Curtis get into their car crash? I'd look this up myself, but I loaned... ok I forced my copy of the book onto my friend, and have no gotten it back yet. Secondly, what is your impression of the DX? Is it a car garage? Is it a gas station? Is it a crazy mix of both? Do they really sell candy there? Thanks for all your help

as for your second question a lot of writers make the DX into a garage/gas station/store but I think it was only a garage and gas station. There's a picture of it online some where though I'm not sure I remember the link.
It's not said specifically what month they're in a car crash though I think I figured the book to be set in September and I think the crash was six months before then. Again I'm not sure but that's how I figured it.
And welcome to the boards.

Hi, welcome to the boards! Many of us have narrowed the book events down to maybe the beginning of September. Ponyboy says the crash was eight months earlier, so that puts it around January. The DX would have been a gas station where they can also fix or do maintenance on cars. Here's a picture of one: home.mchsi.com/~sjmills5/keota/keota4.htmlIf they did sell candy, it would probably be from a vending machine, though they might have had a few types inside at the counter. Generally, though, they sold things like oil, fanbelts, etc., rather than things you'd see at a convenience store. My dad worked at a gas station similar to this in the late 50s/early 60s; most of my information comes from either him, or from just remembering what gas stations were like when I was growing up. In fact, in New Jersey, where I grew up, you still aren't allowed to pump your own gas, so most gas stations don't have convenience stores attached and still look much like the one in the picture.
