So Randy went under emotional changes during "The Outsiders" and in "That Was Then, This Is Now" he's thought to be the hippie.
In your universe was "The Outsiders" Randy's turning point or was there more behind it? What happened to change Randy into the thought be hippie?
For me it was when he fell in love with a black girl and he goes through emotional strain that way...I really need to start writing that fic lol.

Okay, I just posted an answer to this, but the forum apparently ate it. Once again, lol: Sounds like it could be a good story, Atmosphere . I always figured it was seeing his best friend killed, and realizing that the guy who did it wasn't a bad guy, that did it. His world went from mostly black and white to swirling shades of gray. Trying to compensate for his inability to find any clear boundaries, he moved himself to the absolute farthest end of the spectrum.

I always liked Randy's character, and he's always, with out a doubt, been my favorite Soc. My version of his turning point is very similar to NittanyLizard's. I see Randy as a character that probably always had a conscience, but like many kids in high school, choose to ignore it and gave in to peer pressure instead. In my mind, he wasn't 100% comfortable with jumping Johnny but went along with it because his friends did. And then, like Nittanylizard said, watching Bob die and realizing the person that killed him wasn't evil made him start to really think about things. No doubt death changes people, and he probably wanted nothing to do with his old lifestyle that in his mind ending up killing his best friend. So, he went for something completely different--being a hippie.
