Because a lot of people can't get past the fact that, yes, she was a snob, even if there's a lot more to her than that. A lot of people like to either pretend that she's evil or nonexistent. It's convenient when they pair up their OCs with the greaser of their choice.
I did actually write that Cherry Red story, by the way... (Yeah, nobody cares...)
Cheers!

I've always thought it would be interesting to see the whole evening at the movies and it's aftermath from Cherry's pov, especially her thoughts on Dally. But it's one of those stories that I want someone else to write so I can read it, without actually writing it myself.
Why, I don't know. I do find her thought process hard to get, she is strong in standing up to Dally and Bob, but won't even speak to Ponyboy at school. An unrelated reason is that it's hard to write direct scenes from the book without plagiarizing entire sections of dialogue. The only way to do it would be to skip the dialogue, or miss the movie part altogether - but its sort of a fundamental scene.

I haven't looked at it in a while, but I got off of my butt and found it, just for you. I'm going to edit it and then I'll post the first chapter at FF.net.

"Fiddler's fart" - hilarious. If you heart Dally or Pony then she's competition. Grr. MS tendencies aside (excuse me)... Girls are boring. A lot of writers here say they can identify better with writing boys. I'd rather follow around Dally while he's terrorizing Tulsa than sit in a nice restaurant and have a quiet dinner with Cherry. On the surface, her character just doesn't seem like as much fun. Yeah, she's got inner turmoil, but so does Steve, and he's got a car. But, this topic has got me thinking... Holy man. I just got a brainwave. Forget it, her character could be awesome. There are fics out there about the guys dealing with an extreme event of the times - Vietnam. What about the girls? Not saying the war wouldn't effect them as well. But, there's that massive movement going on that I don't see often in fics (maybe cause I'm blind - sorry), because, as mentioned before, there are seventeen billion interesting guys around. What about that whole bra-burning thing? Cherry's stubborn, she's got a sense of justice, but she's also unpredictable with that strong sometimes thing. The Women's Lib could be an *awesome* trigger for some Cherry stories. What would she do? In the words of Pony, "Oh, boy, oh, boy." Someone has to do a Women's Lib fic, or point me to a good one.

Yeah, she's got inner turmoil, but so does Steve, and he's got a car. I completely agree. I don't think I've ever tried to tackle a Cherry fic, because I don't think it would hold my interest. I'd much rather delve into the interactions between the boys, than take a step back and deal with the girls (especially a Soc. girl). I'm a girl so I've lived that life already... Part of the fun of fan fiction (to me anyway) is being able to go outside of yourself and take a completely different view. Hence, why I enjoy Dally so much. I'm also afraid that if I did try a Cherry fic, I'd make her too whiny and annoying for anyone's liking. Having (or hearing) Cherry complain that her life is "rough" too, just never seems right to me. I always think, "what a jerk," everytime she lectures Ponyboy in the park. Sure, she has her own set of problems, but when I compare her life story with the Curtis brothers, their lives are WAY harder, hands down. There is just something inherent in Cherry that I don't trust and don't want to deal with, as a writer or a reader (unless it is very well done).

I've already said this but I think Cherry IS a jerk. She DID stand up to a tough hood she didn't even know, only heard about but she couldn't say hi to Pony in school because her friends might think differently of her?! Screw that and screw her! I have no sympathy. I'm a mean bitch.
