It amazes me that no matter how many times you go onto fan-fiction that you come across no doubt a certain sister fic whether this is Winston, Curtis, Cade, Randle, or Mathews -- although a Mathews sister is cannon they are rarely seen.
The Winston and Curtis sister are no doubt the most regular sister fics, but, why not make it more cannon and make the readers more intressted? Why not make this a female cousin of Dally's? Or better yet (and more beliveable) a male cousin of Dally's? There's so much we can discover through seeing Dallas in a different light by using family bonds.
Have you ever given any thought to the cousin of Mr. Winston that lives up in Windrixville? What did you get from this? Have you thought of a fic? Did you see Dallas in a better/worse light?

I could not agree with you more! It seems as if there was a sister invasion over at ff.net, for all the boys. I finally saw some brother fics - had to start that trend myself - and now finally, cousins are starting for Steve.
That's why I wrote one for Dallas featuring not only a female cousin, but a male one, too. I don't think it's caught on yet, but I have high hopes!

I've considered doing a Dallas' cousin fic with an older male cousin and a younger female cousin. The older male cousin would have been the canon cousin and the younger female his little sister. Perhaps now that I am less distracted I'll revisit the idea. But I think a new Curly/Katie one-shot is going to happen first.

I've thought about writing about Dally's cousin, as well, but have a little too much going on right now to pursue it.
In my version, Dally's cousin is a boy who is about the same age as Dally. He's this naive farm kid, the oldest of several kids by a wide margin, and he writes about the summer he was 13 when Dally came to stay with his family. That's about as far as I got, haha, other than to imagine that the whole story is prompted by something that happens to the cousin when he's an adult, and he starts thinking back about Dally. I also had one scene in mind where Dally asks (in disgust) what they do for fun around there, and his cousin shrugs and replies "We got some checkers in the front closet."
As for your question, I think I see Dally in a different light, partly because he's in a position where he doesn't have to constantly feel the need to protect himself. Even as a tough and street-smart young teen, he's more fun and mischievous than dangerous at that point, in my mind.
I'd love to see what some others would come up with about Dally's cousin. Maybe this would be a good prompt for a future rumble?

In mine, Dallas' aunt (his father's sister) and her daughter come to stay with them after her husband and son (the canon cousin) are sent to jail. The aunt "isn't quite right" and Dallas is almost forced to look out for his female cousin a little more than he'd like thanks to a promise he made to her brother. It's not the typical, gushy, OMG Dally has a soft side kind of story. He's still fairly abrasive but he gives her a few pointers on how to cope with living in his father's house.

That sounds like a good one! I'd read it.

Rumble hints...I like it! Keep on the look out for that one!
As for these cousin ideas, I like them! I had one idea for an epic Dallas family fic. It would be from when he was a kid, landing in jail and why he left New York originally. In my mind, Dallas' father has 5 siblings. So that makes for lots of cousins. Mainly it would focus on the relationship he and Jocelyn ( featured in my story Passin' Through) have with the eldest cousin - the role model who tragically loses his life and the way the family goes to hell after that incident.
It's still in the thought process and probably will never happen, but hey.
