Anyone participating? I think I will give it a shot this year around my roughly 30 pages of research papers due this month. Should be fun, anyways.
For those of you asking what I'm smoking, NANOWIMO stands for National Novel Writing Month (Aka, November). The goal is to write a novel of 175 pages or roughly 50 000 words by the end of the month. It's all quantity over quality, designed so that you can go back and edit in December, since you really have nothing else to do. Apparently it works, but November really is the worst month to ask a university student to participate. Meh.
Anyways, check it out over at www.nanowrimo.org/ for more details.

Nano is what got me back to writing four years ago! I was considering signing up again this year just for the heck of it. I've been on this writing thing recently; the muse is back, haha. I don't know what's going on, but I'm not arguing.
Don't know if I'll get the 50,000 done, but it works as a good motivation.

This is my third year nanoing.
First year, I did about 10000 words and copped out. Last year, I won! By posting the snake joke three times...
This year, I hope to win honestly.

This sounds like fun and somethin' I'd do... but I'm not sure I have enough time... Oh well, being a student is always hard. I'll work on something. 50,000 words does seem a bit... long. Oh well, like Nittanylizard said, it's good motivation.

This is my third year participating. I'm hoping that I can write the 50,000 words or more this year. So far, I have a good start on it.

I think I can do it, but I'm going to have to do some serious prioritizing.

So far it's not as hard as I thought it would be. I've spent two hours on it and I'm already 800 words in. Which is better than I have been in years. But it's like Liz said, it's motivation. In my case, for something new and original instead of the Outsiders. Go figure.

I'm already 3333.33 words behind a.k.a. haven't started.
I'll do some word wars today- I always own them.

i'm REALLY REALLY behind, but i'm not worrying about it. this is my first year doing it, and from what i keep hearing, you get better the more you participate.
i'm looking at it this way: i'll have a solid draft to start a fic that i had planned on writing anyway!

I never signed up because the site was so bogged down every time I tried, but it's just as well. Life's been busy, lol. I've been steadily working on my three fics, though.
I think I only wrote about 4,000 words my first year, but it launched me into a completely different story that inspired me to go back and re-read The Outsiders, which in turn led to me finding ffnet (with a little help from the flu), thereby making lots of friends and finding a whole bunch of motivation to keep at the whole writing thing.
*takes a breath*

I've only just heard of it from this post, so I'm quite a few days late. BUT, that said, I'm still giving it a shot. I'm on about 4000 words right now, and I'm hoping to do some serious writing tomorrow. I'm not sure if I'm going to be a winner or not, but it's still going to be a lot of fun trying. However, I have a question to ask you guys. If I reach 50,000 words, but my story isn't finished and it's already near the end of November... does it count as cheating if I post it?

i'm honestly not sure...

No, it's not cheating. The goal is to write 50000 words, not to write an entire novel- if you write it and it's not done, you still have the 50000 words done, and therefore have achieved the goal.
