Has anyone ever had difficulty at first with getting to know your characters? Terrence has me in circles about who he is.

I find that I have the same problem sometimes. There are at least three that come to mind that manage to throw me for a loop often. I think it's because they are always evolving and changing. It makes it hard to keep up with them, even in my own mind

Some characters definitely take me a while to get to know. I like knowing what my character would do in a situation and, more importantly, why. I often come up with characters before I come up with a story (which sometimes causes problems because I can't find a plot to fit my characters), and I take a lot of time working out who they are before I even start planning out the story. Sometimes, though, I do have a little difficultly knowing who my character is. I've been wondering lately what one of them actually does in his spare time, weird as that sounds. If your having problems, though, ash, there's a book you might want to check out. It's called 'Building Believable Characters' by Marc McCutcheon. It has a questionnaire for your character, which I'm working on right now. It's really helping me get to know them

Yes, but it's my own silly fault. I make them WAY too human than they need to be, so it makes them difficult to 'get'.
Like, I need to know what my character did, and would have liked to have done, for his ninth birthday. Until I can pinpoint EVERYTHING, concrete, about their life, I don't feel like I 'know' them.

The book is real good idea,CooRoo, I think that would work. I kinda have the same problem I like to know what my character's do and why.

lmao, I've looked back at some notes from when I first started my story/creating my OC.... and she has changed SOOO much (not in the story... but in my mind) and I really like how she has turned out. But I just laugh at myself looking back at how I started Emma Smith/Winston XD
