Do you think C. Thomas Howell is irreplacable as Ponyboy Curtis?
I think so.According to me,nobody can be a better Ponyboy than CT.The way he looked. The way he acted.Everything was so perfect. As if he brought Ponyboy to life straight out of the book.He even had the same eyes as Pony.Greenish grey.Although I'm not a C. Thomas fan,I can't imagine anybody else playing Ponyboy Curtis.Amazing casting. What do you think?

thinking...thinking...thinking... nope, i honestly can't think of anyone else who could play ponyboy. though, tbh, i consider the entire cast pretty much irreplaceable in their roles, even if they didn't necessarily look like the character described in the book. take, for instance, rob lowe as sodapop. he may not have had blond hair [which is the only deviation from the book] but he had that movie star look and that lightness to his step that was uniquely soda. matt dillon as dallas, again while not a blond, played off that tough new yorker that had that seething just under the surface that could explode. glenn withrow as tim shepard...while not in a lot of the movie, what glenn does bring to the movie is a controlled, edgy tim, and while they put the scar in the wrong place, his acting - what little was shown in the movie - was superb. i could go on and on about each of the cast members at this point, i just took a few of my personal favs. yes, i think ct's performance as ponyboy is pretty much irreplaceable. to date, i haven't observed an actor who could bring to the character what ct did. mr. coppola did an excellent job of casting.

I had always thought he was the only possible Ponyboy until I saw Jay R. Ferguson play the role in the TV series. CT was perfect for the movie and did a fabulous job, but if they'd had to wait seven or eight years to do the movie and needed to cast differently, I think Jay would have been superb as well. He's the only person I have ever been able to replace Tommy with when I try to imagine somebody else acting out the book scenes.
And this is coming from somebody who had pictures of Tommy Howell, and only Tommy Howell, all over her bedroom walls twenty-five years ago, lol.

see, for those of us that missed it, it's just not fair to not have the outsiders series on dvd I know, I wish they would just release it already. I had actually never heard of it until a few years ago when I discovered The Outsiders Book and Movie website. Then, a couple of years ago, somebody on their forum videotaped some of the episodes (she had gotten a VHS tape from somebody on ebay, where you're not allowed to sell that kind of thing anymore) and put them up on youtube. She had to close her account for other reasons, though, so they aren't there anymore.
