Apparently the author deleted the story. I messaged him/her about it and was told that it was chopped due to lack of interest in it. *sighs* Go figure. I thought it was quite good myself.

that sucks...well at least i didn't get into it lol
that's the thing, though, if i'm writing a story, i'm not writing it to generate interest in it...i'm writing it for ME, and if i like it, i'll go ahead and post it, and if no one else reads it, i don't care, i'm still posting it...i would never take down a story simply because of "lack of interest"...oh well

thanks stone and i agree with you murder, I write it cause i want too not because of what people think. that's why i try not to let flames get to me. It's great to know what people think but I'm still gonna post even if people tell me it's no good.
my favorite saying is: opinions are like butts everyones got one, some stink and some don't.
Or: You are entitled to your own opinion but I don't have to hear it or take advice from it.

often authors look at their reviews but fail to see that, well, most readers don't review...just because there aren't many reviews don't mean nobody is reading it

I'm guilty of that myself. I don't consider myself a good enough writer to con crit other's works. If it weren't for my beta, my stuff would be riddled with bad spelling and terrible grammar.
But ... just because I don't review doesn't mean I'm not reading the story.

I can't complain about their decisions ... I don't review so they have no idea that I've even read the fic. As I said, I'm guilty of not reviewing, but sometimes I do PM the author if the fic is interesting and original.
I guess some authors go by the review count to tell them if the story is being read.

I can't stand it when people delete stories because they aren't getting enough reviews. agreed! i have the right to complain here, i'm one of those people who usually review, even if it's just a "hey i like this story, good job" kind of thing...which, most of the time it is |

I wish they'd use common sense and go by the story stats rather than the reviews- number of reviews is very misleading. Your first chapter stats are beserk, but it's a great way of judging how your readers think your doing, and telling where you went wrong.
Infact, I'd go so far to say that I don't like it when authors write for reviews. When I write, it's because I have a story I think others would enjoy and that I would enjoy writing- not because I want my ego stroked by seeing my review count go up. Sometimes lots of people like your story- sometimes not so much. Whether or not people review shouldn't affect whether you enjoy writing it or not, and shouldn't affect whether you keep writing or not.

I guess it's a matter of feeling like your work is or isn't being appreciated. I would have removed my stories if no one had shown an interest in them, too, BUT I would've waited until I got to at least the fifth or sixth chapter ... and only then if I had NO reviews.
Each author has their own sense of what their story is and each will react accordingly. Not all writers are alike ... and God forbid they ever get that way or life will be very boring indeed.
