I posted this on my LJ but thought it would be fun here and maybe some of you guys could post a list, too. Anyway, I use music a lot when I write and decided to make a soundtrack for my story.
My story is Come Down From Your Fences and here's the list of songs I put together:
Desperado - The Eagles (shocking, I know)
Summer in the City - Lovin' Spoonful
Seagull - Bad Company
When It Don't Come Easy - Patty Griffin
My Back Pages - The Byrds
Raise a Little Hell - April Wine
Fault Line - Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
Long Road - Tiger Army
Days Like This - Van Morrison
Oh Very Young - Cat Stevens
Little Bit of Soul - Music Explosion
Fields of Gold - Eva Cassidy
Living in the Twilight - The Weepies
Have a Little Faith in Me - Joe Cocker
Mustang Sally - Wilson Pickett
A Little Less Talk, A Lot More Action - Toby Keith
Tattoos and Scars - Montgomery Gentry
Circle Game - Joni Mitchell
Down on the Corner - CCR
Turning the Tide - Richard Thompson
Stand By Me - Ben E. King
Bookends - Simon and Garfunkel

As you know, because I posted in a comment, I love doing this for stories! I do it with almost everything I write, both original and fanfiction. It's so much fun ... and I'm glad to know I'm not the only one, lol.
Here's my list, for my story, Don't Think Twice, It's All RIght. It's ... pretty long. But there's a reason for that. Lol. These are all songs that have either been featured in, or used as like, a byline at the beginning of the chapter or whatever:
1. Now and Then -- Susanna Hoffs 2. All Summer Long -- The Beach Boys 3. Ruby Tuesday -- The Rolling Stones 4. At Last -- Glenn Miller Orchestra 5. Popsicles and Icicles -- The Murmaids 6. Abraham, Martin, and John -- Dion 7. Blue on Blue -- Bobby Vinton 8. The Universal Soldier -- Donovan 9. Navy Blue -- Diane Renay 10. The Times They Are a-Changin' -- Bob Dylan 11. Hello, Stranger -- Barbara Lewis 12. For What it's Worth -- Buffalo Springfield 13. Incense and Peppermints -- Strawberry Alarm Clock 14. Drive My Car -- The Beatles 15. I Will Always Think About You -- New Colony Six 16. Kaleidoscope -- Procol Harum 17. Shapes of Things -- The Yardbirds 18. Rock Me -- Steppenwolf 19. She -- The Monkees 20. San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Flowers in Your Hair) -- Scott McKenzie 21. To Susan on the West Coast Waiting -- Donovan 22. Hello, I Love You -- The Doors 23. "Fish" Cheer/I Feel-Like-I'm-Fixin'-to-Die Rag -- Country Joe and the Fish 24. The War Drags On -- Donovan 25. Nature's Way -- Spirit 26. Kicks -- Paul Revere and the Raiders 27. Somebody to Love -- Jefferson Airplane 28. You Don't Have to Cry -- Crosby, Stills, and Nash 29. The End -- The Doors 30. Long Time Gone -- Crosby, Stills, and Nash
And that's only so far, lol. It'll get longer before I'm all done with the story, and I'll probably make it into a playlist on Windows Media Player. I probably won't burn it, because I really don't use CDs anymore ... just my laptop and my mp3 player. :D

Great list, Queen Jane. This will of course lead to more downloading, lol. I burn CD's (lots and lots of CD's) - I'm old school. In my day there were these things called cassettes ...

Thanks! :)
I used to burn CDs all the time, until my brother David got one of those Sansa mp3 players, and I decided I wanted one too, lol. Mostly because I was sick of carrying my portable CD player and a bunch of CDs around everywhere; I just figured it would be easier. So I got one too, and mine's better than his, I must admit, lol. (Not to mention my CD player broke, so I had nothing to listen to when I went places anymore.)
My parents have a bunch of cassette tapes somewhere, lol. They used to be all together in a shelf at our old house ... but since we moved they're probably lying out in a box in the garage, still ... o.O

I onlyhave a CD player...which I don't know where it is. I have never made a soundtrack for my stories, but that would be a cool thing to do.

I was just thinking about this....I don't have a soundtrack for my one-shots but I do have songs that inspire me to write some of them.... If You Could Read My Mind by Gordon Lightfoot Nothing Else Matters (obviously since I used it in my songfic!) by Metallica (sorry again, Tens!) Smile Like You Mean It by The Killers Love is a Battlefield by Pat Benetar That's all I can think of right now....I'm planning on using some music as a background for a story I'm thinking up lately....I guess it'd be another songfic....hmm....we'll see! Great lists, guys!!

OMG maxiekat....April Wine!!! Wow, I thought I was the only one who knew them!
Ok...who else thinks In the Summertime by Mungo Jerry would make for a GREAT Two-Bit story?

Fosterchild - Yeah, I just recently discovered April Wine. Well, I think I'd heard a song or two but never really gave them much thought. They're great. I don't know the Mungo Jerry song (or if I do, I don't know that I do). I'll try it the next time I'm downloading songs.
I love that Gordon Lightfoot song - it has great lyrics. Have you ever heard of Blue October? I'm obsessively listening to their song "Sound of Pulling Heaven Down". It's a great one to blare in the car, lol.
Oh, and I had to buy an iPod today. The CD part of my car stereo died and it was just easier to get an iPod and hook it up to the radio than to get a new stereo installed. So now I will be obsessively making playlists for it ... though not until next week, after I'm finally through with all this Harry Potter stuff, lol. I did transfer 200 songs to it today, though.

I love that Gordon Lightfoot song - it has great lyrics. . And I just realized that you're using them in your signature. I'm very tired - pay no attention to the girl at the computer, lol.

I dig Blue October....I need to get their music!
You MUST know Mungo Jerry....Billy Idol and Slash just remade the song last year and they did great on it, too....one line in it that makes me think of Two-Bit is...'If her daddy's rich, take her out for a meal, If her daddy's poor, just do what you feel...' LOL

It is amazing to me that music as much as anything else can inspire a story. For me it's ESPECIALLY music. I can hear one line and that's it. Like this for instance....
"I want to rock your gypsy soul"
I think we should maybe try a challenge like that....ONE lyric that makes you write....I don't know about specifics cuz I'm beat right now and surprised I can even formulate a sentence but yeah...

Mars, Natalie Merchant does a version of Tom Wait's song I Hope That I Don't Fall in Love With You that for some reason reminds me of Ruby whenever I hear it - especially at the beginning of your story.
It's about a woman who meets a stranger at a bar and tries to fight her attraction to him through out the night. It doesn't work, lol.

Oh, mars....sequel? Nice! I'm listening to that Tom Waits song now but with this teenage girl singing it...very nice! I can totally see that being a Ruby song......I love Tim and Ruby!!!

Mungo Jerry...and Rumpleteazer?
Never done this soundtrack thing. Sounds like massive fun. I've gone the opposite way, back in the day when I taped things off the radio at random - the order of the songs inspired the events of the plot. Also fun.
