This may have been covered somewhere but I was wondering if anyone here is a member of FictionPress.com and under what names. I'd love to read some of you guys' originals if you have anything posted. Also, I'm curious after doing some research on copyriting, how does that work there? I know we've discussed plagiarism on ff.net but have any of you ever had any problems on fp.net if you've posted there? I read that a story is generally posted with a sort of 'understood' copyright that no one can steal it without repercussion. Just wondering these things before I go posting anything original on there. You know how talented I am and I'd hate to see people stealing my work! lol Thanks for any help!

I've never had any problems with fp that I know of. But I do know of a few people that have. My penname on fp is the same as ff, st.elmo-lover. It's a great site and really I just love to read stuff.

I have a Fiction Press account, but I don't use it. And now that I know publishing stuff there won't let you publish IRL, I probably never will, lol.
Or I could just never let the publishers know ... lol. I mostly just use my writing journal on LJ to post my original stuff.
My accout name on Fiction Press is "girl from the north country," which is another Bob Dylan song, lol. (But it's better 'cause it kinda applies, too.) There's really nothing there, though ... nothing posted, and I have yet to write something in my profile. :p

When I talked about the plagarism issues, I was referring to my FP account. I don't really use it anymore, beyond reviewing other people's stuff over there. And the only stuff I read over there is Ten's and Ryker's, so yeah. Lol. I have the first one or two chapters of a trilogy that I planned to write for forever ago, and I probably will never finish it, though I'm still very fond of it. The other one I have there is an original version of Do You Believe? That I tweaked for my Creative Writing class. I was SO bad. I totally cheated. It was our end of the the semester test, and I was having major writer's block and couldn't come up with something that she liked, for the life of me, so I took Do You Believe? and rewrote parts of it, changed the names, and turned it in. I got an A Lol.

See, that whole "Won't publish if it's posted" thing is why there are two versions of every story up there. That, and on is just not enough. I swear, I would so fan fiction my own stuff....
And yeah. There was a point to this post!
On Fictionpress I go by Sonah. I have a few stories posted there. Most of them are just funny things with no purpose but to amuse me. I have some romance, thriller/horror, Christmas parodies and the prequel to Finn that is basically on unofficial Hiatus. I just use it for random writing bits. I'm not serious enough at the moment to consider publishing. I need to have more time to sit down, write and edit and all that without school and work in the way.
Oh well. Here's my link if there's any interest after my rambling. You can find Keira, Rock, Ryker, and Liz in that order under my favorite authors.

See ya in the funny papers!!!

Does chopping a fic off fictionpress restore to you the right to publish it elsewhere?

I didn't know that posting at fictionpress took away the right to publish it later on. GOOD TO KNOW. Lol.

Bear in mind I may have misinterpreted "I have a Fiction Press account, but I don't use it. And now that I know publishing stuff there won't let you publish IRL" to mean their terms of use.
It might be that book publishers give you the hairy eyeball if you have a fictionpress account, for whatever reason.

That's really very interesting. I'll have to look into that and take down what little I have there, just in case... I'd never heard that before, but that's not to say it isn't so.

Ok, I checked their TOS, and here's the relevant section:
Part b) is a bit vague but it sounds as though you could still republish elsewhere if you choose, but in any case definitive reversion to you happens if you chop your fic on fictionpress.

Yeah, that's what it sounds like to me. While on the site it's theirs, upon removing it, it goes back to being yours Good to know. I'd reccommend never uploading anything there, though, if you have the intention of publishing it some day. 1) Someone can steal your idea, and has been the case quite a few times, I'm sure. 2) Who's going to believe it was yours to begin with? Once it's deleted, it's game to anyone.
