Ooh, that's an awesome idea. Somebody should make one here, too. I swear, I could probably answer like all your Vietnam questions, lol.
The only things I'm not that familiar with yet are the My Lai massacre of '69 (or was it '68? ... see, you can tell I know nothing about it, I don't even know the year it occurred, lol), and the whole Tonkin Gulf thing. Otherwise, I think I know all there is to know about the Vietnam War. And again, not trying to brag, lol. :p
But yeah, back to the point, somebody should make a Q&A thing here. That would be really helpful to a lot of writers, I think. :)

Eh, I'm no good at math, but I'm not too sure about that under ten percent thing. Ah, I was hoping you would show up for this one! Yeah, I don't know too much about it, but I had just read something to this effect very recently (stumped as to where I read it, though), so when I talked to my husband this morning (he's away right now) I asked him about it. Rich has been reading about and studying military history for years, so I was hoping he would have some idea. He came up with most likely less than ten percent were in the middle of active combat on a regular basis, meaning that barring a freak occurence the rest were not involved in fighting most of the time, though it could have been between 10 and 15 or 20 percent. I'll try to come up with a source and an actual number, as he's got a bazillion books scattered all over the place. And now the baby's awake, so I'm done, ;). Liz

I admit, I'm slow, but I think I see what you mean now. It just looks a little confusing to me, though -- I mean, those percents are not a lot, are they? I mean if you were to turn them into a fraction or an actual number or something.
I really do suck at math, lol. No wonder I'm still in Intro to Algebra. God help me in Geometry next year ... D:

Zevie! I am so laughing over here! Honestly, the dog jumped when I kind of squeaked and started giggling.
I'll teach people dirty French! Or maybe I'll teach them how to complain their pet turkey is now Thanksgiving dinner....Now that was on hell of a play...Also I've been accused of knowing a little bit too much about gangs and how they work, so yeah, I can probably bring something productive at least...
This whole Q&A suggestion is brilliant. Give me a couple minutes and I'll see what I can do!
See ya in the funny papers!!!

Ok, there is now an official Q&A board under The Finer Points because that's where it fit. Head on over to learn French and Vietnam and all the rest. I expect you guys to fill it!

I kinda like that melodramatic ending for Soda. He may be idolized in Pony's eyes, but I figure he's still a pretty stand-up guy (to put it terribly, heh). That's a pretty heavy thing for Steve to have to deal with, too. Another reason for the drug habit?

I like that ending, actually; it sounds like something Soda would do. I always envisioned him dying trying to save somebody else. As sad as that sounds.
I think that would totally contribute to Steve's drug habit, too. I mean, just imagine how hard it would be to lose your best friend, and especially to war. I don't even know what I would do if that happened to me. I know for a fact though that that's something that soldiers did in order to escape the pain of things like that. It was pretty common during Vietnam.

As for the Q&A board...I bring absolutely nothing to the table! LOL Nah, hopefully I know something about something......
Steve and Pony? Well that's another thing....Steve is too harsh for Pony and Pony is too sensitive for Steve. Lethal combo for aa actual friendship. They'd never be friends, in my opinion. Some sort of respect thing, yeah but not friends. Even if Soda were gone. Again, respect for their place in Soda's life but that's about it.
