Ralph Macchio was 21 when he played Johnny! I dont know why, but that's so surprising for me. He looks so young! He was born in Nov. 1961!

Yes, I remember being really surprised when I found out how old he was, because I think I didn't know until The Karate Kid came out. He very easily passed for a 17-year-old kid in that one. Some people just have such a young look to them. He's a terrific actor, as well, which I'm sure helped even more in pulling it off.

I think it shocks everyone to find that out for the first time. I remember thinking how weird it would be to play someone so much younger than you really were... only to later on find out that most people do, lol. I mean, take Patrick Swayze for example -- though, of course, he appropriately looks his age. But, good for Ralph Macchio -- I hope to be, or to marry someone, who looks as good for his age as he does now.

i knew he was older than johnny when he did the movie, but i didn't know he was that much older! kudo's to ralph for being able to pull that off so well
