What you should be worried about is what your shoes are thinking. They want to eat you because they know you will eat them if you ever get lost in the wilderness.
As for horses, I also have never been a horse person. Therefore, I am in complete agreement with the theory of association with horse people when it comes to needing horse knowledge. Most times that perspective is far more valuable than any book.
The most memorable part of the book in my mind is when Travis describes driving fast down the highway, the slightest distraction enough to make one crash. My impression was that Ms. Hinton has most definitely driven the Deerfoot.

Well, I don't know about kill, but one of my horses did used to try and injure me - he would crush my leg up against fence posts, or go under low hanging branches to wipe me off. I learnt to give all objects a wide berth when I was riding him lol.

(By the way, did anyone ever read Mathilda by Roald Dahl? Wasn't there also a scene with a TV and her family dragging her to it? I think in the book she broke the TV. Man, that book is such a catharsis for any kid...or anyONE actually.) That's what I think about whenever I read the book.lol

Yes, whenever I think of Taming The Star Runner, Motorboat comes to my mind. I'm a big cat person, and I always like to ponder over a cat being as big as Travis said Motorboat was. I find myself always measuring a cat I stand next to, going "Hm, is this cat as big as Motorboat?"
Another part of the book that stuck with me was him walking into the stalls, and that one chick who was high just walking around without a shirt on, and he's just like "Hey, how ya' doin'?" Oh, I also liked Kurt. He reminded me of Kurt Cobain for some reason, maybe because of his name? All I could imagine was Kurt Cobain walking around with Travis, and it always made me smile.

I was just finished rereading Taming the Star Runner, and got to thinking about an idea for a fan fiction. What if Ponyboy were a teacher at Travis' new school? And while Ken is busy with his wife and Christopher, Ponyboy kind of steps in and helps guide Travis along. -shrugs- Probably sounds boring, but I'll write it anyways. -after I write one that's been sitting in my head for a while, where Two-Bit and Dally have to dress up as hippies and end up playing for a band at Woodstock-

If you write it, I'll read it I don't think it sounds like a bad idea at all. I keep wanting to start a Tex fic, but I have this terrible habit of never finishing anything I start...

Oh, a Tex fic?! You have to write it, I'd love you forever if you did! I don't know why, but Taming the Star Runner is the only S.E Hinton book, other then The Outsiders, I can think of an idea for a fan fiction, but I think if you did a Tex one, that would be way cool. x3

I guarantee that Tens is probably laughing at the sight of this. Lol. I would love to write a Tex fic, some day... I'd have to come up with an idea for a story first, though.

Aw, you don't need an idea, just start writing and your pencil will do the rest. xD

Yes, Tens is laughing.
I dunno. I would love to do a Taming the Star Runner fic because there is so much you could do with it. I mean, we haven't taken it completely apart like we have with The Outsiders. Travis could have a long lost sister out there or could be dying of cancer or a girl randomly comes to live with them or some other dumb thing.
Personally? I have a plot in mind, but I have no idea what I would do with it.

Oh, you should write it! I don't even care what your idea is, just write it! -we must start a Taming the Star Runner community-
You're right though, with TTSR it feels like we have less boundries, like instead of worrying about being original and correct about a whole bunch of junk, we can just let our creativity flow, and even if our ideas might suck in the beginning, slowly they'll become better and better. x3

Sharp, you hit all the nails I was thinking of on the head. Boundless was the word I was looking for. There is so much one could do. Good luck with getting a community going, though. It seems like everyone who read the Outsiders became either a TWT,TIN or Tex fan if they progressed. I'll never get that one.
I'll let you know if I ever write it.

That's too bad. I mean, I love the other books, but Taming the Star Runner... I don't know, I just really like it for some reason. xD;; I will make a community, I'm bound and determined now!
Hey, maybe some time you could have a special Rumble on here where we have to write a story for one of Hinton's other books. That would be quite spiffy, if I do say so myself. -Jesus, my cousin says spiffy all the time... -.-;;-

I need some Taming the Star Runner help;
Where do you think Travis and Jennifer's relationship goes?
I'm trying to decide how prominent of a character she should be in my story. I know I definitely shouldn't leave her out, Travis stated he has feelings for her, like protectiveness, and that he thinks she's pretty, and she'll also be in classes with him, but do things look like they'll go any farther then friendship...?
I suppose its really up to me, but I'd like to hear your opinions first.
