Okay, fess up - who's everyone watching this year? Does anybody care?
My teams:
Rutgers - Yes! Yes! FINALLY!!! Not counting the four years we spent there getting our education, Rich and I waited fourteen years for last year's season. We no longer have to say things like, "Wow, that's awesome! They only lost by six points!" ;D
Penn State - When I first moved out there, I thought they were all arrogant and self-involved. Now, having having had a chance to live amongst them for nearly ten years, I've realized that Penn State players and fans are arrogant and self-involved. But in a FUN sort of way! Seriously, you haven't been to a college football game until you've stood amongst 96,000 people who are all yelling back and forth the stadium to each other, in sync, "WE ARE...PENN STATE; kind of blows you away. *wipes tear from eye*
Anyone? In the meantime, I'll go put on the chili...

My entire family are huge Notre Dame fans. Well, not the entire family ... mostly like, my mom and my grandpa and my aunt ... and my brother and me, lol. I think it's partly because Notre Dame, the college, is in South Bend, Indiana and that's where my mom's family lived for a long time, like right across the street from the college. And it's where my mom kinda grew up. Plus, it's close to Chicago, and why not have another close proximity football team to cheer for? Lol. (Because my grandpa is from Beloit, Wisconsin so he's a huge Packers fan.)
I probably won't be very interested this year though, at least in Notre Dame, now that Brady Quinn plays pro football ... I used to love watching him, lol. I got to watch him play the Bears last night, though! Omg, he's such total eye candy, lol. I'm such a fangirl. :p
But yeah, Notre Dame is great.
But how about pro football?! We're Bears fans all the way here. My best friend's mom is so crazy about them, she goes to the games in sub zero weather in the dead of December (which is a big deal here) and actually enjoys sitting in it. I could never do it, lol. :)

Umm...I don't watch collage football. The year the Eagles were in it I watched the Superbowl...but only cuz my friend didn't come over. I didn't understand half of what was going on, lol.

I mean, you couldn't have picked it better if you were making a movie. "Hmmm, what should we call the hot quarterback? Ethan Fefferfiefer? Too nerdy. Trev Fenner? Already taken*. I've got it! Brady. Brady Quinn." * Trev is mine ;)

Lmao, that is so true!
It's also perfect, at least when he was playing for Notre Dame, because not only are they called the Fighting Irish, but Quinn is an Irish name. And I'm pretty sure Brady is Irish, too, but I'm not absolutely certain.
So it worked out well, for him.

I never watched football as a kid because my dad couldn't stand it. He's from Hungary, so his things were soccer and auto racing. Not having any brothers, I didn't even understand the rules to football until I was in college and Rich explained it all (he played in high school). I just remember I'd be waiting for a show to come on, and the football game would still be going, and I'd be like, why the heck do they keep stopping the clock? The final two minutes have been going on for ten minutes! I don't have a real favorite in NFL. I'm from south Jersey, near Philadelphia, so my extended family were all Eagles fans. Rich has always been partial to the Raiders. I do remember that for a while, when I was maybe 9 or 10, I liked the Cowboys because I wanted a horse. Makes perfect sense, right? Okay, rethinking here. I'm going to have to say that if I had to pick a team, it would be the Giants. They have their training camp in Albany, less than 20 minutes from me, and seem to have a big following around here. Plus, I think Eli Manning's pretty cool. Yeah, I'll put my money (it's just Monopoly money, so don't get all excited) on the Giants. Liz

Okay, Appalachian State is beating Michigan State at halftime.
Who the heck is Appalachian State? I'm getting all kinds of odd images from that one...and the faint twang of banjo music...

I am not pleased with the fumbles today. So you're at least getting your game? We're completely in the dark here. Dang regional coverage.

I swear to God I'm bad luck, though lol. That's what my dad thought last season. He would watch hardly any of the Bears games because he thought they always lost when he did. ... But then they made it to the Super Bowl so it obviously wasn't him. :p

*points to location, taps foot and looks a Liz's post* I don't know a single person who can play the banjo, myself, thanks. Hahaha, so where are they? No time to google now, little one is trying to drag me outside. I was thinking, like, deep south. Incidentally, I know somebody who plays the banjo. He's from East Orange, NJ, lol.

I guess I was thinking along the lines of the Appalachian Trail, which runs from Georgia to Maine. I've hiked and camped on parts of it in north Jersey, up by the Delaware Water Gap. I'm sorry if I offended anyone (or sounded like a complete moron, for that matter ). I just had this image of your generalized 1920's backwoods Appalachian hick with a big old still in the woodshed, but he's running around on a football field instead. My sense of humor tends to project itself in Gary Larson cartoons, but it doesn't always translate well in writing .

Sorry, totally not following either college football or this thread much (I don't have a particular interest in watching games on TV, so unless I'm there in person, I don't care for any sport.) I DO like football, but like I said, in person.
However, our home town University team (BYU) just won their 13th game in a row today. Absolutely terrible traffic, as always, but hey... my brother was very very pleased. We didn't see it -- we just got stuck in the post-game traffic after a movie -- but people were very happy. Lol.

Man, we have no football in Lethbridge. It's disconcerting when you come from The Rock where everyone is football crazy.
So, due to lack of having my own University team to root for, I am going to latch onto Professor Birchfield's enthusiasm for the Sooners. Or as he would say "God's own team."
*shrugs* I'm a Lions girl at heart, but they're pro ball. They have their own song! I love the song! My dad always gives me dirty looks when I sing it since he's a Stamps fan. I am such a bad Alberta girl.
But I was talking about the Sooners. They hate Notre Dame. *nods* So I'm afraid that my assumed football loyalties means Mars and I are enemies. *nods* Oh well. Go Sooners, I guess!

Well I've never seen a game of football in my life. But what I am excited about is the Rugby World Cup which starts this weekend. Does anyone else here care (or even know) about the RWC? Or maybe I should rephrase - is anyone here not American or Canadian? hahaha.
