Have you any songs that send you into a 3 minute Outsiders bliss? Or any other story bliss for that matter?
I'm fairly certain I'm not in the minority when I say that I have quite a few songs that remind me of books I've read. Not just The Outsiders, but many different books. And they remind me of the books for various reasons. Perhaps they touch on a subject that has a revelance to the book, or I just happened to hear the song while reading the book and it stuck.
For example, the Goo Goo Dolls Black Balloon has always made me think of TWTTIN, probably because I heard it on the radio many times during the course of reading the book. However, that and Crash and Burn by Savage Garden seem to somehow touch base with the book, even though neither of them completely relates. In any case, that's how it works in my head, and they reminds me of it.
Other music, such as Sting/The Police, and Linkin Park make me think of Harry Potter, because I listened to it (Sting and The Police) a lot while reading fanfiction and that just happened out that way. A few lines will stick out here and there (i.e. ... I don't drink coffee, I take tea, my dear. And, ... But it's like no matter what I do, I can't convince you to just believe this is real (but really, the whole Faint song, by Linkin Park, screams HP)...).
ANYWAY, the main point I wanted to bring up, personally, is Elvis. Not because he's the gang's favorite singer, but because when I hear his songs I think "Soda Soda SodaSodaSoda." My dad plays only Elvis in his SUV so whenever I happen to drive it I get an earful of Elvis and I love it. I feature Hound Dog in my fic Against The Fates, but I've discovered how easily I can see Soda dancing to A Little Less Conversation, as well as a few others. It's such a catchy, dancy tune that I feel the need to express Soda's love of dancing competitions through it, lol. If you're unfamiliar with the song you ought to check it out.
What about the rest of you?

Ahh music! I hear so many things that remind me of the Outsiders. And of other books, like you mentioned. Sometimes it is just one line and sometimes it's the whole song.
I said in another post I've been listening to Van Morrison's Moondance lately and there's a few songs on there that remind me of a couple different characters. Two remind me solely of Two-Bit (and one I have no idea why but it does) and one is making that Steve story rattle around my brain. I think it's about to stop rattling and actually be a story!
Elvis, though, aside from the fact that it does have so much to do with the Outsiders, only reminds me of my one friend who is a total Elvis nut!
There's one Duran Duran song that reminds me of the Outsiders. I think the title is 'Come Undone.' "Who do you need, who do you love, when you come undone..." is a little Steve-ish to me.
There's always the music....

Umm...well, It's Not Easy being Me kinda reminds me of the whole Pony- Darry relationship, but that's about it....I don't really listen to music that much.

Tom Petty. Aha, when I was reading the Outsiders for the first time, Free Fallin' was playing. And Flirtin' With Time reminds me of the boys. I'm such a weird person.

I may have to take a pounding for this, but at the time it was my favourite song (I *did* listen to decent stuff as well, but...forget it, no excuses). The Backstreet Boys' "As Long As You Love Me" always reminded me of the Soda/Sandy thing. It still does, but it seems less romantic and more desperate now.
This is (sadly) the only example I can think of, but I know there are many others I'm forgetting, lol. There's a bunch that now make me think of specific fics too, though, lol. Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Truck Driving Man" for example, lol, almost completely because of the title. Some of Eagle Eye Cherry's "Save Tonight" *really* reminds me of the Laura/Dallymance - but replace the "girl" with "boy", lol. (Was that actually in the story?)
By the way, I have a random grammar question: in "As Long As You Love Me" do you capitalize the start of *all* the words like that cause it's a title? It looks funny to me, because I don't think I usually capitalize "as" but it'd be weird since it starts with "as" to not capitalize either of them, but if you capitalize the first and not the second wouldn't that just look like you forgot to do the second? ...Sorry, this was totally boring and lost me five thousand cool points, but I can't help obsessing over these things sometimes, lol.

I think so. If there's only one word that needs to be capitalized, then you still capitalize it. Since the first "as" is at the beginning of the title, the second should. Then again...I'm kind of guessng. I'm pretty sure, though.

With that song, yes, capitalize all the letters. If it were Duke of Earl (just popped into my head as an example! LOL), you wouldn't capitalize 'of.' And yeah, I also have songs that remind me of some of the fics, too! That's funny. Sometimes the fics are so good that I forget what's the real story line and what's the fic! That was a bad sentence.

One of my current favorite songs makes me think of The Outsiders. It's called "Won't You Play Another Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song" By B.J. Thomas. It's supposed to be about a guy left behind by his girl, but it just has this feeling of abandonment that makes me think of what happens to the gang when the Curtis parents died, Two-Bit's dad left, Sandy took off, Johnny and Dally...well, you get it. It's like nothing lasts and you'd better just play a sad song and suck it up even if it hurts.
David Wilcox's "My Eyes Keep me in Trouble" makes me think of Two-Bit. It is this this upbeat tune that you could just see Two-Bit walking down the street to and the lyrics are pretty close, too.
The Stones' "You can't always get what you want" is soo the theme song to my story "I Want to Go Home." And the Marshall Tucker Band's "Take a Load off Annie" is loosely Finn, so funny what your mind comes up with.

That BJ Thomas song is a good one! I can see your point on that, too.
Ok, so here's another Duran Duran song....Save a Prayer....it's another Two-Bit song for me. "Some people call it a one night stand but we can call it paradise." I can totally hear him saying that to some girl!

Yes, I do believe you capitalize all the words in song titles. I don't think you need to do it anywhere else, but it is correct to do it in that instance.
It's interesting to see all the different songs people relate to The Outsiders. One of my favorite songs is Come Undone, and I'd never thought of it as relating to Steve. I'm going to have to go and listen to it again (the record version, NOT the live version. Whoever told that chick she could sing was not in their right mind.). Same with As Long As You Love Me. I used to be a Backstreet Boy fangirl, I must say. I do still love them and have all their records and listen to Never Gone every once in a while, lol, but I haven't listened to the earlier stuff in a couple of years probably...

Lol, Keira, I haven't listened to BSB in a long while, but I have to say, I felt a swell of camraderie at hearing you were a fellow BSB fangirl. The lyrics to their first three albums are still taking up my brain space. Unintentionally, I swear!

I was at the Bellagio in Las Vegas the other day (being a very bad girl and gambling... got kicked out, because I'm under age. Rock laughed at that... I was kinda nervous actually, but it's okay though! I gave my older brother the tickets of my winnings before hand and he cashed them for me. I only went 50 cents in the hole. Haha. First time gambler. Didn't do as well as I'd have liked.) and my brother and I went out to go look at the big fountain outside -
(For those of you who are lost, think Oceans 11 - That's the hotel I'm talking about)
Anyway, they played a BSB song - can't remember which - and I got all giddy and sang along. My brother sang along too... and it took me a moment to realize my eldest brother, in his late twenties, big and buff as you get, and who doesn't want anyone to think of him as anything less than ultra cool and manly (just ask Tens... he's so effin' full of himself), was singing to the Backstreet Boys. I teased him and he said, "Well, it's not as if you didn't brainwash us all for the last 10 years. I can't help it if I know their music. You played it every dang day."
*Sheepish grin*

There are a ton of songs that make me think of The Outsiders for one reason or another. One big one, that actually goes back to when I first read the book is "You Gotta Be," by Des'ree. Everything about it just screams Outsiders to me, and it's an uplifting song which makes me happy. I remember hearing it way back when and seeing little snippets from the book or scenes from the movie pass before my eyes. If I was good at editing and stuff, I'd totally make something to put on YouTube. Anyway, search for the lyrics if you are unfamiliar or reply and I'll post them here myself. One other song that makes me think of The Outsiders, Soda in particular, is "Wayward Son" by Kansas. There are so many more, but I'll leave it at these two before I go and embarrass myself!
