If you run out of momentum/interest before the end of the story do you just think "eh, nevermind..." and leave it unfinished and move on to something else.
...or do the unresolved issues and lack of conclusion to anything start to drive you crazy so that you think "I have to finish this freakin' story even if it kills me".
(I'm the latter unfortunately lol.)

I'm a little of both, I think. I don't exactly have room to talk since I've never actually finished anything, but I think it would be a little of both. It kind of depends on the story, though, and my interest in it to begin with. :)

Depends what story. If it's one I don't have much feedback on, I kinda just leave it there. But if it's one a lot of people have alerted or something, then I'm just like...well...I guess I have to finish it... And that is why my endings really, really suck

Well... I think that my atrocious track record proves that. I don't finish things. I don't like leaving off on them, most of the time, but I don't usually finish stories.
The only one that really bothers me--or, rather, that I remember--is Cogs. I should get back to that one of these days, if anyone even remembers what I'm talking about...
Part of it is because I can't limit myself to one story. I can immerse myself in just one for a while, but I can't keep it up. I start tons of stories because I always have so many ideas, or little bits of writing come to me... or so many other scenarios. And I get distracted, or I forget about stories, or, I have come to realize, I lose interest once I figure out the characters...
Cheers!

*I* have to know how they end. It bugs me if it's unfinished, but, as long as I know what would happen in the end at least generally, than I can let my laziness take over, and just leave it unfinished. For awhile, at least.

Fanfiction: I have to finish the story. For the most part. But sometimes I just totally lose interest...I think I have one up there that may never get finished. But I never particularly liked it anyway. As for my other stories not on ff.net...well that's another story. I have hundreds--yeah, I'm really bad with this--of unfinished stories on my computer. I start something, come up with this "amazing" idea, type a page or two, start something else and never come back to it. Then one day while going through old stories, laughing at how stupid they sound now, I find that unfinished one and add like a paragraph or something. And then it goes back to just sitting there. Lol. Sorry. But I do try to finish my fanfiction, honest!

Interesting topic. I've never said "to hell with it", but I know many who have. Especially with the long chaptered stories, you know?
I understand it, but I think I would go nuts if I just left it there staring at me with accusing eyes...
This is the main reason I write, to finish a story that someone will enjoy.
Random fact: JRR Tolkien used to get stuck on his stories (The Lord of the Rings mainly - Return of the King) and instead of mulling through it, he'd scrap the whole thing and start over again. Talk about devotion and hard work....I'd go nuts with frustration if I did that for an entire story....
