Almost three years ago, I started writing a story called The Empty Chair. It ended up being a terrific learning experience for me, and when it was over, I kept going to write its sequel, Finding Rocket. Recently, I have been going back and re-writing Finding Rocket as a stand-alone novel. Mostly, that has involved working in more of the backstory from The Empty Chair. I'm doing this partly because I think the sequel is just better, and partly because the main character is a bit older (14/15), which better fits the story into the young adult genre. Pretty much all of my regular betas have already read TEC and FR. What I could really use is some input for FR from somebody who has never read TEC. Since I have everything so ingrained in my head, I am having trouble figuring out whether or not the reader is getting all of the info they need in all the right places. I need to know if it makes sense as it now stands, or if it could use some more backstory. It's a young adult novel, and currently just over 70,000 words. For comparison, The Outsiders is just over 49,000 words. If anyone is interested, send me an email or a PM (from here or ffnet). My email server has been having issues, so if I don't get back to you right away that's why. Speaking of, Keira, I got your email on Saturday, but haven't been able to reply back because of this...issue they're having. It seems to be getting back to normal today, so we'll see . Liz

That's okay, Liz -- either way, I wasn't offended when I didn't receive a reponse
Speaking of TEC -- I was having major withdrawls the other day. No joke. Major withdrawls. Funny how that is, considering I have about a zillion different versions on my computer, haha. No, but I kept running over the scene in my mind from Penn State where Rae ... hmmm... Maybe I shouldn't say anything after all. It's not a crucial moment or anything, but it was so so sweet. Did I ever tell you that Kurt is one of my all time favorite characters?
EVERYONE needs to read this story, and the sequel. Or the sequel -- whichever you end up choosing, Liz. They are so so good. I've never read anything quite like them before.
