It's February! I know, a little behind, but you know you still love me! I love all of you right back!
Rumble, February '10:
Just Between Us
Throughout the novel, we got to see several different views on what fathers were like in the Greasers' neighborhood. Some were gone, some were less than sober, some didn't care, and others were unforgettable.
Write a story, 7 pages max, Any POV, about one (or more) of the Greasers spending time with their father. Was it happy? Sad? A distant memory? It's your story - tell us!
Please copy, paste, and post your entries under this thread so that we can all enjoy them! I know there are some awesome imaginations on this forum. So get writing!

So I'm actually going to do this one. I started writing it in my Shakey class tonight while discussing all the short jokes thrown at Hermia in Midsummer's Night Dream. Go me for double-tasking.

Oooh, interesting... I was thinking of doing one or more POVs, and so far I just wrote Johnny's, so I'm gonna try and write some other POVs... I think Sodapop would sound kinda cool, so I might try and write that, too. Hmph... *ponders* oh well, I got a month to figure this out

Lol, yeah .. It seems to me that usually in fan fics, Pony and Darry are the main ones grieving over the loss of their parents, but not Sodapop - he seems to be like a counselor to them, but then in reality, he's just as sad as they are - probably even in MORE turmoil than Pony and Darry put together. To me, I don't think Soda's portrayed that much "in grief" b/c he's always the care-free, devilishly handsome (but nothing compared to Matt Dillon <3) type of person that nobody wants to write "bad" about b/c he's so happy-go-lucky all of the time. I think it would be a little different and "out there" to pull a 360 on Sodapop Curtis and have him totally OOC, but I'm gonna try anyway and see how it turns out Also, I think that some of us might even be afraid (?) to write a fic about a character like Soda where he's not so happy-go-lucky and totally out of his comfort zone, angst-like, depressed/over emotional, grief-stricken and maybe even IN pain b/c we don't want to tarnish what fan fics, along with "The Outsiders" itself, has wrote about him over the past few years. ANYWHOO, enough with my rambling - off to write! And by the way, infinitegrey, I can't wait to see how Stevie turns out.

Well, a Sodangst fic would be way better than any of the OOC Romance Soda fics.

Ha, amen to that winston! I love Soda/OFC fics...but sometimes they are so horribly done it makes me think less of his character. We all know he cried at the funeral - bawled, actually - but he doesn't really seem to be the type of person to talk about stuff unless it comes up. Like when he ran out (in the full-extended movie or whatever) he doesn't really express his feelings about Sandy at all. He would definitely be an interesting angst character to write about - not a lot of people can do it. He *would* be a hard character to write about. He is definitely NOT a Gary-Stu because he's been to jail, his girlfriend cheated on him, his parents are gone, ect. He simply knows how to hold everything back..which is why I can relate to him..sometimes. Off to write, winston. !

Ha, yeah - it's gonna be a good time. Sodapop mixed with angst, oh boy! I totally just realized how much Sodapop is like me - like you said, he seems to block his emotions away from people and himself so that he doesn't get hurt - which I do. I don't like talking about my emotions - frankly, I hate it with a passion - so I *rarely* and almost NEVER open up about *anything* emotion-wise, since I've dealt with death too many times in the past to know what it, and the emotions it brings on for the joyride, feels like. :\ I totally agree with you that not a lot of people can write about Sodapop when he's in pain b/c you don't *really* understand what grief and all of the other emotions that come with death, loneliness etc., feels like until you experience it firsthand. That's why I think that not a lot of people can take on a character like him and totally pull a 360, b/c SO many people just *don't* understand what Sodapop is going through during half or at least the whole book b/c he hides it so well, covers it up with this personality that everyone loves, but on the inside he might just be falling apart. Sometimes for me it's really hard to pull off an emotion like angst b/c it's such a hard emotion to write about. Sure, you may be the greatest author to have ever graced the surface of the earth (or fanfiction), but your angst may suck b/c you have no feelings and no experiences to really bring out an emotion, to leave an impact with the reader. I also think that so many authors struggle with writing Sodapop in angst b/c it's heartbreaking for all of us Outsiders fans to see such a heart-warming character like him totally change in the split of a second with a few simple words posted on a website, y'know? Well anyway, that's what I think. This is going to be a challenge, but it's sounds like fun. Don't worry; I'll get there eventually, hahaa. By the way, I totally love love the movie. Matt Dillon forever <3.

Yes! That is exactly what I think. I have never experienced death, or a severe case of betrayal (Sandy leaving) so I could never attempt writing him. Oh, of course it'd be easy enough to write him from someone else's (?) perspective - because he doesn't open up very well.
It seems as though we're getting carried away ;D lol.
I would probably relate with Two-Bit. We both crack jokes to cover up the rough spots - which is frankly why I like him. Although I'm not very original - so I could never, ever write a good Two-Bit/OC fic. I'm just not good with that. Steve, sure, he's easy. He's not just a negative Nelly, he's much more.
Annnnd I'm turning into a sap now. Great. But, anyways, I can't WAIT to see that Soda/angst fic. It's going to be awesome. :-)
