How many of you guys are Newsies fans? I remember when I first started doing Outsider fanfiction and almost everyone that read my fics and anybody fics that I read, also liked the Newsies.
Maybe it was just a huge glitch in my brain power or something.
I, myself, have to admit that I LOVE the Newsies.
Right, so I just HAD to ask that.

Oh. My. God. I love the Newsies. Lol. Not hugely obsessive... but I remember the first time I ever heard of it. I was 16 and my friends were singing some weird song and I kinda laughed over it. Later on that day I was telling my oldest brother about it and he kinda just stared at me and said, "You've never seen the Newsies? You've never HEARD of the Newsies? Oh, Keira... We're going to Blockbuster right now."
Proceeded to watch it four times that week.
I need that soundtrack again. And the movie, come to think of it. I had a friend burn the soundtrack for me... don't know what ever happened to it. Don't know what happened to a lot of my burned CDs from those days, but in any case... When I was in California back in May, my cousin and I listened to that soundtrack at least three times on our way from Sacramento to Anaheim.
And Christian Bale is gorgeous. Completely in love with him. You sure struck a chord in me, lol.

Eh, guilty. Newsies is teh awesome. Not because it's particularly good, but because it's incredibly amusing, and you just get caught up in it. It's fun. It's empowering. It has great music ("Carpe Diem," anyone?). And I actually think that the acting is pretty damn good, namely Christian Bale's and Gabriel Damon's (who made his small amount of screen time really count, in my opinion). Add all of that to my inherent love of both history (however anachronistically portrayed) and New York... Yeah, I'm a fan. I only watched it for the first time in January. I had heard about it last summer and offhandedly considered watching it, but just pushed it aside "for another day." Now it has sparked far too many giggling fits and inside jokes. My best friend made her little brothers watch it, and now Casey thinks that Spot Conlon is cooler than Legolas. She taught them the songs and they dance to them. I have yet to see this particular feat, but I bet that it's adorable. There does seem to be a correlation between the two fandoms, though. I've noticed that as well. Hmm... Perhaps it's because both fandoms involve groups of ne'er-do-well boys with very few female characters? Or maybe we're just a fun-loving bunch? Cheers!

I'm totally with latch - it's the history aspect that made me love the Newsies. Aw, now I'm thinking about it and the fact that i haven't seen it in YEARS (literally) and I think I should go rent it. Awesome points for you, st. elmo.

Yes, major awesome points, st. elmo.
I had a sneaking suspicion that it might be popular around these pages. Nice to see that it is; it's just one more thing to blather on about, now. Lol.
Cheers!

Lol, agreed. I love going on and on about random things. As for Christian Bale, he is my all time favorite actor. I have to watch every single one of his movies because he is such an amazing actor. He changes himself so much just to play someone in a movie and it's awesome. Like in The Mechanic and American Psycho, the only thing I can say about him is WOW! Gabriel Damon is really amazing too. I loved his role in Newsies. He did it really really well! Newsies so far as history is amazing too because I would have never known about any of that kind of stuff without watching it. All I knew about was the orphan trains. I never thought about newsboys and lodging houses of that sort. It's pretty cool when you learn things from movies.

I'm a history geek. Not history buff--no, no, I'm just a plain old geek. So, naturally, I was attracted to the historical aspect of Newsies, especially because I was absolutely thrilled that it focused on one of my very favorite, if not my favorite, time periods, in one of my very favorite places. Funny how things work out, huh?
Admittedly, though (and, yes, I did have a point when I started out, and it all led up to this as I agree with you), I had never really thought about newsies. I had done research on child labor around that time and even in the north east and New York City itself, but they were just a group that I had generally overlooked. The movie did help to broaden my view of the time, and I went off and did even more research--which is one of my favorite things to do, anyway, being the geek that we have already established myself as, lol.
So, again, I agree, which I must repeat as we all revel in the redundancy. : )
Oh, and one other thing. It was out of the norm. It wasn't like most movies around the time that it was filmed, and especially not now.
... I must admit, however, that it took a little while for me to get over the embarrassment of watching a bunching of singing newsboys dancing in the middle of the streets of New York City *cough*prebuilltsetinLA*cough*.
Cheers!

I haven't ever seen it all the way through. Hah, my sister used to be a really big fan. She got the soundtrack for her 16th birthday.

You know, I have never even heard of this show (or was it a movie?). Makes you wonder if I really did grow up under a big rock since it is obviously popular...

Ah, silly Artemis, I had you pegged right from the get-go. There is no escaping this movie.
*is mauled by mars for calling Artemis "silly"* ("No! Not the Sues! Anything but the Sues! I swear, I didn't mean it!")

I absolutely love Newsies! When I was about four, my mom rented it from this independent movie place and she brought it home because she thought my little brother would like it (he was two, though...). Anyway, we watched it and I was obsessed with it for quite a while before other movies took its place and I forgot about it until maybe a year or two ago and I really got into it again. Actually, last summer I was stuck inside and I wrote a letter to Gabriel Damon then got an autographed picture back! Yeahhh... that movie is awesome, but I thought Max Casella did a great job (and he can TAP DANCE... I never knew that...). Well, that's my rant/rave about this.
