When Darry's eyes are cold, Steve's hair is comprised of complicated swirls, Johnny looks like a kicked puppy, Dally looks like an elf, and Soda looks like a movie star with wheat-blond hair ... but Ponyboy isn't the narrator.

when nobody can have simple eyes. They're not just Blue, they gotta be stormy blue, or ice-blue, or blazing-blue.
Also, when Ponyboy has huge bright-green 'emerald' eyes.

Two-Bit is in some way "responsible" for Ponyboy ending up in a bad situation. (His fever before the rumble, or forgetting him at school, etc)
