So, I was at a couple of thrift stores this afternoon with my youngest brother, trying to find some cheap weights for him to use (long, unnecessary story) and while he was having a good old time laughing at all the funny things we spotted while there, I was looking through all of their books they had for sell.
At one of the stores I came across both a copy of The Outsiders and That Was Then, This Is Now. I instinctively picked them up to buy, even though I have both of those already, in those exact same covers. It was only after a few minutes that I kind of shook myself and thought that, yes, while it's very sad those two books are there, I can't save every copy from a thrift store. It's just not logical...
As I was putting them back where I found them, I started to think about all the excessive Outsiders memorabilia that I DO have and realized that I have quite a bit - probably more than the average fan. Including, a keychain, four copies of the book (all different covers), three copies of the movie, the TV series, a whole binder full of newspaper/magazine clippings from the TV series, promotional pictures/stills from the movie (deleted scenes, which I thought was the shiznit before the Completed Novel came out a few year later, but which I still think rock ), the original movie soundtrack, stickers, posters, etc...
That's not including the stuff I have for the rest of Susie's books, but that's for another forum... some other day.
This just got me to thinking - I wonder how many others out there instinctively collect Outsiders trinkets. Anything original or unique that someone's come across or purchased?

I don't have much sadly. D: All I have is two books from them (Normal and platinum), The Complete novel edition of the movie, and a T-shirt of Ponyboy and Johnny with my name on it that I love to wear (I do NOT have fangirl problems!). That's about it. With all the pointless stores here when I live, Outsiders franchise is so hard to find for me. *sigh*

I'm too cheap to do that... *coughs* I mean, I'm parsimonious.
I have a little, slow-dying paperback copy that I got first, used, and a beautiful, glossy, hardcover edition that was given to me for my birthday last year but that I'm too paranoid to even touch for the most part. Lol. And the Complete Novel edition of the movie.
And maybe I'm alone, here, but I don't like buying things.
... I might buy a shirt, though. But that's probably it.
It is neat to see the memorabilia, though. I'll admit, I like seeing it. But I'm more of a look-but-don't-touch kind of person.
Cheers!

That's really neat you have all that stuff, Mars. I remember when the jacket was on eBay. I too drooled over it for a while.
I am terrible when it comes to my own impulse control. I see something Outsiders (or otherwise related to the worlds Susie has created) and I instinctively feel the need to take it right then and there. I tried to buy a copy of the original cover book on eBay a few months ago... fell asleep and the auction ended with the next bidder paying .50 cents more than I had put my max bid at. I was furious with myself, lol. Of course, I do all of this while having very little funds, which is mainly why I put those poor books back on their shelves earlier. They would have only cost me a total of $2, but... *sigh* I just didn't have the money.
Of course as soon as I put them down, I went immediately to the movie section to see if they had a copy of Tex. I have a copy that I ripped off another VHS a few years ago *coughcough* but I'd dearly love to own a REAL copy of it. And Rumble Fish. The other two I have legit copies of, lol. Sorry Susie... I'm working on it though!

Earlier this month I went to BookExpo America - a trade show in New York City. Susie was there and I got an autographed copies of the 40th anniversary edition (comes out in September) and Some of Tim's Stories. She was so nice and I got to talk to her for a couple of minutes. I tried to remain calm, lol.
In additon to the anniversary editon, I also have the movie cover that I found on Half.com, the Penguin edition from last year with the black cover, and somewhere at my parents' house there is a box containing the one with the red cover that came out in the late 60's. I remember getting that one at a farmer's market because my original copy had fallen apart.
The only version of the movie I have is the Complete Novel. I used to have a ton of pictures and magazines (I think I had the 16 magazine), but all that stuff is long gone, alas. I had this huge bulletin board because my parents wouldn't let me hang stuff on the walls, and for the longest time the only pictures on there were from The Outsiders.

Maxiekat - You met her? SO JEALOUS.
I'd just like to say that I was a very normal person, stuffs-wise at least, before I discovered mars' lj. I had ONE copy of the book (overread and disintigrating, yes, but still - ONE). Now I have three, plus the two movies, plus the tv series and I am counting down the days until I can get home and start ordering Glenn's movies (and stop obsessively checking your lj for updates, mars). I never even thought about Glenn Withrow and now he's suddenly one of my favourite actors of life. This is still minimal compared to most of you guys, lol, but accomplished all in the six months since I found that page with the different covers on it...
I love finding the books and squealing over them, but, like Keira, am not well enough funded to be buying them all up. Plus I have occasional moments of lucidity where I realise that it's the same story in all of them, which, by now, I'm sure, most of us have practically memorized. (If you don't believe me, start writing it out and see how far you get. It's VERY VERY funny.)

Quick side note, when I was in tenth grade, I was determined to memorize the whole book, because I was psycho and Rock was in California for a week or so. I spent an entire weekend memorizing the chapter and a half, my cousin called me and I told her what I was doing... she immediately thought I was joking so I started to rattle it off for her, and she got really tired of it after a few paragraphs, lol. I still have most of the first chapter memorized word for word *shakes head*.

I don't have much - just the book, DVD, and a video copy of That Was Then This is Now. Which I can't watch anymore because my VCR has died.
...oh and the TV series.

All I have is the book, the regular-version DVD, and the extended version DVD. Lol.
... Well, I also still have my packet and stuff from when we read the book in eighth grade, and I'm gonna be a junior this year so I guess that says something, but I don't think it counts as memorabilia. :p

I have this t-shirt that I wear everyday under everything I wear.
Just kidding.
I don't have, like, anything. In New Brunswick, there's not many old movies to buy or any old book stores. There's one, and I wiped out all the S.E. books. Unfortunately, there were only three. I mean, I have a paperback copy and the movie (sadly, not the complete novel version), but my whole family thinks I'm a little obsessed. Some day I'll search Ebay like crazy and get as much as possible.
I hate being a kid...sometimes.

My husband picked me up an original red "Outsiders" poster for our first wedding anniversary... Paper, you know. It is quite lovely: all framed and ready to hang in our extra bedroom/computer room once we finally get around to ripping down the wallpaper and putting up a new coat of paint. In addition to that poster, I have a bunch of movie stills, the SuperTeen! issue dedicated to the movie, the old VHS (opened and watched countless times), the original and "complete novel" DVDs, and a couple copies of the book. I also have a "packet of stuff" (like Jane does) from the seventh grade... Like quizzes and worksheets, and even a couple drawings that my friends and I created. Check out some of the early entries on my LiveJournal and you'll also find an "Outsiders" themed menu and an apology note from a friend after an "Outsiders" related fight... Haha! In addition to the "Outsiders" memorabilia, I've also accumulated some Matt Dillon stuff (since he's my favorite). The real gem there is a Quiz book written in the 80's by one of his biggest fans. It's really cheesy, but I like knowing that I have it... Even if it is tucked deep inside a closet! I can't believe some of the stuff the rest of you have!! It almost makes me feel like I've got to get out there and round up some more goodies for myself!

A friend of mine has revealed that she saved all her old teen magazines from the 80's and they are stored somewhere at her parents' house. I keep asking her to look - the possibilities are endless for what could be waiting to be discovered in those boxes, lol. I mean, I can't for the life of me remember what Ralph Macchio's favorite color was and I, like, totally need to know.

Yeah, I used to clip everything out and make "books" of all the actors I liked - I threw everything out at some point in high school, it was a painful decision.
I somehow resisted the whole NKOTB thing. I think it was more of a rebellion against my best friend who was obsessed with Donnie Wahlberg to the point that she had to hang his pictures on the ceiling because she ran out of wall space. Of course, at that time I was completely and totally in love with Johnny Depp (not much has changed, lol).
I know what you mean about the thousands of dollars - I literally bought every magazine that I came across for a good solid ten years at least. Because, you know, they all had completely different information in them. I was watching one of those "Boys of the 80's" videos on YouTube and I swear I must have owned at least 75% of those pictures at one point.

Haha, that was me with the Backstreet Boys. Every fringin' inch of my walls and ceiling was covered in posters and pictures of them. I think I counted them all once and I had over ninety of them up there. My friends were terrified of coming into my room. "I feel like I'm being watched. It's really creepy." But whatever, I liked it, lol. I too spent far too much on things related to them (over $400 in concert tickets, and every book, CD, magazine, music book, poster, movie, ANYTHING I could possibly get my hands on.). I have a little BSB fortune. I even still have Backstreet Boy wrapping paper that I never opened. Two backpacks that were never used. A watch, keychains, etc.... Man I was so obsessed. Still love them, but all of that stuff is now tucked away in a few boxes/poster canisters to be admired down the road, lol.
You know what this says to me? We're all obsessive people. Lol. But obsession is good, right?

Obsessions are so much fun.
I've been obsessed with the Beatles since I was about six or seven. It's since died down -- I mean, I'm still obsessed, but I don't talk about them 24/7 like I used to, I don't try to convert all my friends, etc. etc. But it's an obsession nonetheless. You should see my room. I've had countless Beatles calendars and at the end of the year, I cut up all of the pictures and hang them on my walls as makeshift posters. I also have a big Beatles poster that one of my friends got me from Switzerland, and another that looks relatively similar, though it's framed, and one of my other friends got me that one from I think Sweden, if I remember correctly. :D
I have tons of Beatles biographies too, and I have the Beatles Anthology on DVD, A Hard Day's Night on DVD, all of their CDs (except a few are burned, and I want to get the originals), a calendar, the Beatles First U.S. Visit DVD, a medium sized poster I got at a flea market, this like thirty dollar booklet I got at my Paul McCartney concert in '05, a few collector magazines (newer, not old ones, sadly), and a Paul McCartney: Live at Red Square DVD. I also know more about them than pretty much everyone my age, lol.
I saw a Barbie-sized Paul McCartney (Yellow Submarine movie version) figurine at this store in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin when we were vacationing there a few years ago, and I wanted to buy it so badly, but my mom wouldn't get it for me, lol. I don't know why. Paul's not even my favorite Beatle -- I don't have a favorite actually -- but that was the only figurine they had. Unless they might have had George, I really can't remember, I was like twelve, lol.
Of course, I've got a few other rather large posters to balance out my Beatles infatuation: one of The Who and one of Jimi Hendrix, and two of a bunch of blues/Motown artists from the 60s that I got at the Blues Fest, lol. :D
