Okay, so this comes from a review for a recent story over on ffnet:
How about the idea that Sandy never actually cheated on Soda?
All we really know is that she found out that she was pregnant while she was dating him. But how long was she dating him? If she got pregnant in June, broke up with the guy, met Soda not long afterward, and dated him all summer, she could have gone all the way until September (or late August, as we don't know when she actually found out) before confirming that she was pregnant. As far as her looking pregnant, I didn't start showing with my first pregnancy until almost 5 months, and I've got a medium build.
It could have been even longer than two or three months, if she were really irregular (I was, in high school), or if she had no symptoms and was simply trying to convince herself for a while that she wasn't pregnant. A relative of mine went five months before knowing that she was pregnant because, first, she was very irregular, and second, she was still bleeding a little bit every month (not uncommon during pregnancy, especially early on).
Your thoughts?

Stemming from the other thread about Sandy being antagonized as much as she is, I never gave much thought to her either way. I also never considered that she didn't cheat on Soda, but I didn't hate her when I thought that she might have cheated on him.
I like the idea of her not having cheated on him, though. Ponyboy views her as a nice girl, and seeming to have something special about her that a lot of other greasy girls don't have. I would like to think he's correct when he says that -- and that perhaps she messed around with someone, decided that guy wasn't for her, and moved on. She would then have found Soda and -- who could disagree, lol -- he's seemingly perfect in all respects.
Whatever way it turns out she was, I highly respect her decision to not burden Soda with a child that clearly was not his. It was galant of him to offer his support, but it wasn't his responsibility, and I'm glad that she was adult enough to see that. Of course, the fact that her parents made her move to Florida didn't help matters, but that aside, it was a good thing what she did.

Thats an interesting idea, its feasible too if her and Soda have just been together a few months. I've heard of girls who get their period for the first few months so don't realise they are pregnant. Especially if she is in denial and keeps dismissing the idea.

It's not even too far-fetched of an idea that perhaps she was already irregular. A lot of teenage girls are irregular when they first start. I remember the very first and second time I had my period -- there was actually such a long span in between that I'd completely forgotten I'd ever already started in the first place. And many girls don't get there's until they're in high school. One of my best buds didn't get hers until she was 16, so it's very feesable that Sandy was well-unaware of her dilemma at the time she was dating Soda.

I actually respect Sandy, in the sense that she did Soda, the baby, and herself a favor by getting away from Soda when she knew the baby wasn't his. In my mind, Sandy knew Soda wanted to marry her, and she loved Soda, but wasn't ready to marry him. So, she panicked, and went to The Dingo, drank a little to much, met a stranger, and...yeah. I don't think she realized what she was doing until later on.

Ahh I have so many different thoughts on this.
Was she actually pregnant? Sure, she says she was, but maybe she just decided it wasn't working with Soda and decided to move away and made up some story about being pregnant so that he'd think there was a reason.
Was it someone elses? Who's to say it wasn't his? Saying it wasn't his could be a way of getting around the whole 'Your going to be a daddy' problem. But saying it wasn't his could also be the truth.
Whos to say she cheated?
I tend to take it at face value- she cheated, broke his heart, and moved. But it's possible that's not true at all!

Pony says that Soda is no innocent, but he never talks about Sandy during the bull sessions the guys have. What if they never had sex? Soda may say he's dumb, but if he and Sandy were sexually active and she did cheat, how does he know the baby isn't his? Thing is, he doesn't. But that could also mean he realized that there was a chance it was his if they were sexually active, and that could be his reason for still wanting to marrying her and writing her that letter.
